Dad attacked by snake hiding on door in viral video

Hiss-terical video captures the moment an unsuspecting dad was greeted by a nonvenomous rat snake — which bit him on the head as he arrived home and entered his front door.

Doorbell camera footage posted on TikTok shows the man unlocking the front door when the sneaky serpent, hiding on top of the door frame, struck.

“Snake bites Dad on Head… haha he thought he was gone,” the man’s son Stevie Haven wrote alongside the clip, which has been viewed more than 34 million times.

“I got bit! I got bit!” the dad then yells as he recoils in horror — even taking a tumble as he tries to scurry away.

Another video shows the unidentified man and his girlfriend returning home before the incident blissfully unaware as the snake lurks above the door frame.

I have watched all the videos. Snake tries to bite son but he is too drunk to notice. Dog barking like crazy trying to warn them. It finally bites the dad. I would be on the road to the ER have screaming my head off

I would have recognize it was non poisonous and cooked him for supper.

I was lying on the bed reading under an open window. Wife came into the room and said tensely but quietly, “Roll over and get out of the bed NOW. I did and looked back and there was what looked to her like a rattlesnake on the windowsill. It was actually harmless but I didn’t leave the window open after that.

I’ve lived in my current home for 31 years because I like it here but if I ever find a snake in my house I will move.

When I lived in Louisiana, my property backed up against a sugar cane field. Mice would frolic in the sugar cane all summer long until one day in the autumn the farmers would harvest the cane and instantaneously the 8-10' canopy the mice enjoyed was reduces to stubble. Three things rapidly ensued as sure as the sun rises in the east:

1. Raptors would fill the air patrolling the cane field for easy pickings from the rodent buffet.

2. Mice robbed of their cover and concealment would make a bee line for them nearest buildings trying to evade the hawks and falcons.

3. Snakes would follow their food into the houses.

Only once saw a venomous snake (pygmy rattler) in my house, but no shortage of king and rat snakes, probably 1-2 x year on average. Having a doggy door probably didn't help.

Yep, hung out with some biology majors in college, they were fascinated by snakes (and just crazy in general). One had a large silver rat snake that would come crawling up over the side of the couch at random times, slither across everyone’s lap and go off the other side. The guy would say things like, don’t move your hands too fast, he hasn’t eaten in a couple of days. At a minimum you need bandages, anti-biotics and a tetanus shot if you get bitten by a non-poisonous snake.

I had a rat snake crawling up the stucco of my Florida house. I was amazed.

My former neighbor Sylvia has had a pet rat snake for over 25 years. I believe it was the oldest rat snake ever. I’ll have to ask her if it is still alive.

Rat snakes tend to be active around dusk.

I’ve caught and been bit by rat snakes dozens of times. I caught a cute baby last week at the park and let it go again. The largest I caught was a 7 footer a few years ago. They have razor shard tiny little teeth and the bites can cause lots of bleeding, but are totally harmless. Rat snakes make great pets. It’s been fun to catch them, feed them on quail eggs and local green frogs and release them a year or two later. I haven’t raised any over the last three years though, but they are so fun to find and catch.

One week ago I saw a black rat snake in the shrubs capture a chipmunk, constrict itself around the chipmunk till it was dead or nearly dead, and then open its mouth wide and swallow it. Pretty gross, but I actually watched for a minute here and there. I didn’t see the whole thing; I was late to leave for an appointment because I was distracted.

I've seen a baby albino rattler once (very passive), but never had a chance to see a pygmy.
Unfortunately, no snakes here on Oahu.. not sure about the other islands.


This place has had a rat issue for a LONG time. From what I've been told, sometime around the 1920s (correction from reading just now, 1883), someone had the bright idea of bringing in mongooses to take care of the rat problem.

Rats are NOCTURNAL & mongooses (mongeese?!) are NOT nocturnal (DuH!).. so they just made more environmental problems.
(At least they keep the insane feral cat population down.)

Um, not really. Soap and water. That'll do it. You get more pain and blood playing with a cat than being snake bit (non-venomous).
