Two in three Americans (67%) said they could live on sandwiches alone for a full week, according to new research.

The perfect sandwich, according to a survey of 2,000 Americans, consists of tomato (54%), cheddar cheese (39%) and Black Forest ham (39%). The survey also found that the average American craves a sandwich four times a week.

It seems that the best solution for your tastebuds and your wallet is a sandwich as 42% polled said they are actively looking for ways to cut down the cost of food, with sandwiches being a good money-saving option for 67% of respondents, according to a survey conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Buddig. For favorite ingredients, barbecue sauce, mayonnaise and honey mustard topped the list, all at 58%. The least favorite was ranch (26%).

BBQ sauce? Maybe on pulled pork or a cuban. Honey mustard - not on anything. mayo is a must with fresh tomatoes. Ranch/Russian - sure, on a nice roast beef.

More meat, less mayo makes a great sandwich.

Lettuce:
Green leaf lettuce is good. Butter lettuce is better if you can get it.

“No bread?”

Usually with bread, but often I prefer just the “innards.”

I prefer sourdough, Dutch Crunch, and Dave’s Killer Bread (PowerSeed and 21 Seeds and Nuts). We get a great “Rustik” sourdough at Safeway and they sell it by the half-loaf. We have a great a local bakery that makes wonderful baguettes, too. Just a thin slice with butter — yum!

Lettuce, Tomato, Swiss, Turkey, Ham (if you have both), Dill pickle (preferably “sandwich stacker” style), Mustard, and Onion on Rye. The onion makes it next-level.

Quesadillas are as close to sandwiches as I get.

I even eat my burgers without a bun.
