“Get on the ground or you’re going to get bit!” he yells.
Rose complies by getting onto his knees and raising his hands, the video shows.
A state trooper whose camera was recording the incident then repeatedly shouts at the local cops: “Do not release the dog with his hands up!”
But the Circleville K-9 officer — identified by WOSU as Ryan Speakman – releases the dog, which lunges toward Rose and bites him as he screams, “Get the off of me … please, please … get it off!”

Exactly. Anyone with half a brain is not going to do that job anymore. It’s thankless..
So you’d advocate doing away with all policing?
No. Just incompetent policing.
Yeah, we’d all love to wipe out incompetence in all areas of life: policing, engineering, medicine, government, teaching, firefighting, flying, retail, automotive, etc... but it ain’t happening.
Agreed that competence is rare in any field but police should have had enough time to winnow out the idiots and thugs. Covid proved that was not true.
But shooting dogs is OK if the FBI does it. Even shooting mamas holding babies. See Ruby Ridge for reference.
What does it matter why he was being arrested? Once he is in the process of complying and surrendering with his hands up there is no reason to unleash a dog attack on him. The other officers clearly knew this wasn’t the right thing to do by their statements and reactions in the video.
We need police, but we absolutely cannot try to justify police when they behave badly. They are paid public servants who MUST be held to a higher standard than the average person and the average person would, in all likelihood, be charged with a felony if they were on video siccing a dog on someone who was no longer a threat. It does not help the cause of law and order to protect bad police officers. Way too much is done to protect bad officers and that lends credibility to attacks on all police.
BTW, the only thing the truck driver was charged with was Failure to Comply. I suspect that given the circumstances they would throw the book at him with every charge they could think of in order to justify the actions with the dog. They didn’t charge him with anything more than failing pulling over and to me that says something.
In the summer or fall of 2020, there was a video going around of a vocal black pastor whom the police invited to take part of their training, where they are confronted by fake bad guys and have to decide whether or not to shoot paint balls.
I think the pastor got shot once and shot twice.
My thought was that police should go through similar training wherein police treat them as suspects. Try to figure out what do do when a bunch of men are screaming contradictory commands is tough.
Question: will this bear be euthanized now that it’s killed a human?
Man, people need to be more situationally aware.
Woah - wrong thread!
I have a lot more respect for rural sheriff’s deputies than for the staatspolizei or (worse) the feebs.
“Why did he not get on the ground immediately when ordered?”
It was 90F that day and the surface temperature of the pavement could be as high as 130F. Besides, he was unarmed and surrounded by at least 30 cops. What constructive purpose would be served by having the man burn himself on the pavement?
In any case the civil rights lawyers are lining up to take this man’s case and the DA will likely dismiss charges in exchange for a settlement. All because some peckerhead just had to use excessive force when other cops were telling him not to.
He was on grass. Double entendre intended.
Nope, look at the video again. He was not on the grass until he was attacked.
LOL. The reality is, they are held to a LOWER standard than ordinary citizens who don't wear magical blue suits. The mere fact that the phrase "qualified immunity" now exists as a legal concept is absolute proof of same.
I know. I am speaking to the way it should be in opposition to my read of what the person I was responding to said. Qualified Immunity is a travesty against the Constitution that allows far too many in positions of state power to escape consequences for their crimes against the people. It is the very opposite of everybody being equal under the law.
