Three individuals still at large after assaulting 68-year-old woman (Source: Rincon Police Department) (Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) A Georgia woman, Donna Hansbrough, aged 68, was terminated from her job at Lowe’s after taking matters into her own hands to stop three brazen shoplifters who had stolen thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.
Hansbrough had been a dedicated employee at the company for 13 years until the incident occurred. According to Lowe’s, her termination was based on her violation of company policy against personally restraining shoplifters, even though her intentions were to prevent theft.
In an interview with the Effingham Herald, Hansbrough recounted the harrowing experience. She explained, “They say that if you see somebody stealing something out the door, not to pursue, not to go out. I lost it.” She further added, “I grabbed the cart. I don’t actually remember going out but I did. And I grabbed the cart that had the stolen items in [it].”
During the incident, one of the alleged perpetrators allegedly punched the 68-year-old woman in the face three times, causing her to sustain a black eye and injuries.
Law enforcement officials are currently searching for the accused perpetrators – Takyah Berry, Joseph Berry, and Jamar Lawton. They have released photos of these individuals and called on the community to report any sightings or information related to their whereabouts.
Responding to her termination, Hansbrough expressed her shock, saying, “didn’t expect to get terminated, maybe a reprimand or a suspension. I just got tired of seeing things get out the door. I just, I lost it. I basically lost all the training. Everything they tell you to do, I just…I just lost it.”
Hansbrough began her career at Lowe’s as a cashier and was later promoted to live-nursery specialist, showcasing her extensive experience in the field. However, she most recently worked as a customer service associate in the plans department before she was abruptly terminated.
Despite the traumatic incident, Hansbrough remains resilient and determined to find a new job. She asserted, “I can’t sit at home. I’m not that type of person,” and expressed her willingness to testify if law enforcement requires her cooperation.
Though she is still in the process of recovering from her injuries, there has been a decrease in the swelling around her eye since the incident occurred.
It not just Lowe's, all of Corporate America has been ruined by a relative handful of Ivy League MBA's and JD's.
I will contact Lowes and ask them to reinstate this lady's job. If they do re-hire her, I'll go back to Lowe's again. If not, Ace hardware beckons.

Defense of the Bean counters: If she sustained a permanent injury while on the job stopping the shoplifters, the company would have been liable through workers’ compensation. I bet Workers Compensation paid for her doctors visit from the beating.

Allowing themselves to be robbed is no problem the stupid paying customers will make up the difference
The woman should have notified store security and just let them handle it. That’s what their job is and she had hers, so I don’t feel sorry for her at all.

Don’t blame Lowes, blame the attorneys and the “law.”. My son works there and during training it’s emphasized that the current laws demand you just let them walk out or if something bad happens the liability is on the company.
I wonder what the reaction from Lowe's management would have been if these thieves were of a more "melanin challenged" demographic.

It looks like her action was a spur-of-the-moment type thing. It wasn’t like she followed the thieves all around the store, muttering to herself, “I’m gonna get those guys”.
On an impulse, she tried to do the right thing. She deserves all the sympathy in the world. Just my opinion, of course.
But but but she has her hair dyed strawberry!! I thought that was a white girl’s “Come get me” message to black guys!! I guess it may work too well!!
No more Lowes. I’ll drive furrher to Home Depot. When HD shiites on there customer’s, I’ll drive to the independent HW store.
To be fair if they are serious about the policy which forces employees essentially to back away from or withdraw from obvious shoplifters, they had to fire her as otherwise (were they to retain her) management would be seen as approving of what she did (in direct contravention of the policy).
