The Weimar Republic was Germany’s government from 1919 to 1933, the period after World War I until the rise of Nazi Germany. It was named after the town of Weimar where Germany’s new government was formed by a national assembly after Kaiser Wilhelm II abdicated. From its uncertain beginnings to a brief season of success and then a devastating depression, the Weimar Republic experienced enough chaos to position Germany for the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party.

Looks really interesting. Thanks!
We’re in a Weimar America period now.
I used to hang out with a great grandson of Friedrich Ebert. We had a falling out over Trump....I predicted he’d win in 2016. What a rube I am.
In ‘84, I went to visit family in Germany who went through Nazism.
The major thing I heard was “We believed their lies.”
One of my relatives was a Nazi soldier. He said the best day of WWII was when he captured by the Americans and put in a POW camp. He said the Americans treated him better than his Nazi officers and he started to hope America would defeat Hitler.
On that trip I also visited family in Communist countries.
I started to form my political views when I discovered William F. Buckley of Firing Line in middle school. (Listened to him in the beginning because he had a weird accent!)
That trip sealed my views.
Also visited Germany’s Brandenburg Gate a month after the fall of the wall. Spent the day sobbing.... tears of joy!!
They were intended to be strangled into chaos by the Versailles Treaty
They were intended to be strangled into chaos by the Versailles Treaty
It was a bad mistake of the Allies to force the Weimar government to sign the Treaty of Versailles like they did. The Weimar Republic was blamed by the right for the treaty and never got lot of popular support because of it.
Welcome to Weimar America.
Get your wheelbarrow now, while you can still afford one.
I don’t like the sound of ‘ese ‘ere ‘Boncentration Bamps’.
There’s this brief period...November of 1918 to March 1919...where things are in a flux in Bavaria, and there’s a brief civil war conflict brewing...where Communists are taking over metro-authority in Munich and Augsburg. No one really talks much over the era....but it scared the crap out of most Germans, and there’s a lot of anti-communism feelings brewing throughout the 1920s...giving some energy to the Nazis being a better choice than the KPD Party.
Fascinating period for the 1920s, but least discussed era of the past 200 years in Germany.
