BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. - A Florida man is behind bars after a road rage fit that included intentionally ramming into cars, striking them with a tire iron and even throwing a barbecue at deputies, the Brevard County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.
The incidents occurred Tuesday morning in Cocoa, near the intersection of School Street and Bay Avenue, officials said. Raymond Hofmann is in custody and faces several charges, including resisting arrest, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and other charges relating to his alleged road rage fit.
Hofmann reportedly parked his Chevrolet Tahoe in the middle of the street and rammed into cars as they tried to go around him, officials said. That's when Hofmann got out of his car and began to strike passing cars with a tire iron.
He broke the driver's side window of a passing truck and the tire iron got stuck in the glass. Deputies shared a photo of the truck online, where you can see the piece of metal inside the window.
Other 911 callers reported Hofmann was armed with a nail gun, allegedly threatening victims at the scene.
When Brevard County deputies arrived to the scene, they found Hofmann armed with a crowbar. Authorities said he was ordered to drop it, but started moving toward deputies saying, "You will have to kill me!" He threw the crowbar on the ground and fled on foot.
During the chase after Hofmann, he reportedly threw a chair and a barbecue at the deputies. He was taken into custody and cuffed shortly after.
The scene in Cocoa is still active as deputies collect evidence.
Outlaw BBQ grill violence!! It’s for the children.
I remember that story. I didn’t remember that is where it had taken place. Tragic story. I wonder if karma has visited any of them, yet.
Barbeque to go. I’ll toss in a chair.
You’re asking about......Florida Man?
Shocking for others, de rigueur for Florida Man.
That’s not a tire iron.
That’s a lug wrench.
I don’t know about anyone else but I can’t forget the CSI Miami episode where the detective gets shot in the edge of his eye by a nail gun. Horrifying image.
Saw that Nail Gun Massacre , Mayhem, Instant Family and My Bloody Valentine had them. Can’t remember the movie with I think a former SNL actor menaced by an envious rival. Now it’ll drive me crazy trying to remember the name.
One day in Basic Training there was a snap company formation in front of the barracks for everybody, nobody knew what it was for. We were waiting on the 1st Sergeant, none of drill sergeants seemed to know what it was about either in retrospect. He was known to be a bit unstable maybe. After a long time standing at parade rest, we kept hearing hearing yelling and strange banging noises emanating from the bowels of the barracks building. The drill sergeants kept milling around.
After a time, a large Speed Queen clothes washer appeared at the barracks door. ? ? Then, the 1st Sergeant appeared all exercised and irate, he picked it up and threw it off the steps. He was an old SOB, and not very big or anything. He was super pissed off.
What had happened, somebody had overloaded the machine with all their TA50 and burned up the motor, and we had to stand their and get our ass chewed out for destroying one of his beloved clothes washer. LOL, he was really torqued.
Everyone is on the verge these days. Some jump over the verge.
I’m honestly surprised nobody just shot him. Here in FL, probably 1 in 4 drivers are armed.
The press is rarely correct.
Lug wrench, nail gun, barbecue grill, and lawn chair. Quite an arsenal.
I see what you did there. Made me chuckle.
He looks quite gruntled too.
EC
They are two separate cities. Cocoa is on the mainland while Cocoa Beach is on the barrier island, and there is a world of economic and demographic differences between the two.
