A unique home in Los Angeles County that captured the interest of California homebuyers — and started a wider conversation about the high cost of getting into the real estate market — has found a new owner. The home, located in Alhambra, was popular among home-seekers because of its modest (for California) price of $250,000. But it also made nationwide headlines due to its location: It’s built into the side of a bridge that overlooks a drainage ditch.

There’s also a mold issue, and no parking.
Still, the bizarre property got plenty of attention and hordes of curious parties stopping by the open house. That interest led to about a dozen offers, Lee said.
A bidding war ensued, with the winning offer coming in at a whopping $430,000.
Glad to see that the Fed was so successful in cooling down the housing market. /s

Nice. Free sewage and trash disposal.

It’s certainly an odd thing, but I don’t think such a novelty tells us anything about anything. And there’s no need to Trump up its strangeness: Drainage ditch” is more likely fairly described as “paved over seasonal creek.” Quite common in urban California, and I’d imagine it’s very cool to look down on rushing waters from the house. That said, not for me. Just too damned small. I see the space for a refrigerator holds an oven instead.

Alhambra is considered a desirable area. It has a large, affluent Asian population. Few Amish.

Two thoughts - hope they got a title insurance policy, and is that a vine hanging down or a significant crack on the viewer’s right side of the arch?

Why no homeless? Aren’t bridges and trails magnets for the homeless?

Some here are confusing it with being an open sewage line.

Better have a good pest control contractor — going to be lots of mosquitos!
Nice crack in the foundation that might be costly to repair.
