Well, to put it bluntly, this sucks. I was in our local Aldi store earlier today and they were in the midst of going to all digital pricing. That is, there's essentially a bar code on the shelf under each group of boxes of items, or under the 2% milk rack, etc., which you scan with a smart phone to get the price. No printed prices are on the shelves, and won't be, according to the employee I spoke with.
Hell no. Just as bad and don't want a damn' thing to do with that gay-ass store.
Try Dollar General. A quality product at a fair price. Xi is thankin’ you very kindly.
It's getting more and more difficult to find anywhere to shop that isn't trying to use the dollars I spend there against me politically and not having to worry about getting shot.
The world is one eff'd up place.
That's because Walmart doesn't do sale pricing. I have apps for all the grocery stores that I go to. It's not that hard to get the digital price. I don't know why people moan about it so much. There have been times where I saved over 50 percent over the regular price on my entire purchase. Older people need to get with it. Get a damn smart phone and download the apps. You can literally cover the cost of a smart phone with the money you save by using these apps.
This is a way to get people to buy overpriced merchandise. It’s much harder for the average person to say no at the checkout stand vs in the aisleway. Military commissaries have been using digital price tags for quite some time now, but these display the price. Being digital just makes it easier to change the price from a remote location.
Walmart has screwed up a few deliveries but it’s OK. I will go to my local market if the produce Walmart sent isn’t great, or when beef and chicken are on sale. I won’t go back to regular shopping either. I like having everything delivered to my home when I’m drinking my morning coffee in my jammies!
People moan about it because they don’t want to have to Fumble with a cellular phone in one hand while they’re doing their grocery shopping.
“I would make a point of asking one of the employees to get prices for you.”
Better yet, just throw whatever you “might” want in your cart, then filter them at the register. Make them put back craploads of items after you price them.
I always give an incorrect phone number or ZIP code to places that ask for one. I also use frequent-shopper cards that are issued to another name. Probably doesn’t really do much good, especially if I’m paying with a credit or debit card, but I like it.
Terrible news. Bad enough that our local Aldi just removed three cashier lanes and put in self-scanners. You still have to call a “helper” over various snags with weighing produce or whatever. I image this digitizing is supposed to answer that.
What will happen to elderly shopperswith just a flip phone? Or privacy luddites who do not wish to have their browsing behavior recorded?
i’ve never looked at prices
either i need it or i don’t
prolly scare me if i did anyway
They have bags. They are in a shelf under the checkout belt. If you want to bag your groceries, you buy the bags along with the groceries for 10 or 12 cents. You can also take corrugated boxes in which their dry goods were shipped, free, from a large wire crate and use them to take your groceries home, and then set them out to hold your recycling for pick up so you don't have to set out a plastic recycling bin and go take it back again. Win-win.
Once you get used to the ways Aldi cuts prices by being “semi-warehouse,” it's a great store with prices 1/3 to 1/2 less than comparables at larger chains. It can even beat the Sam's or Costco prices on many items if you don't mind comparing. I keep a running list of my regular items in my phone at which store so I can check which is the better deal.
Not all their store brands are as good as name brands, but some are just as good and many are better, and at lower prices. They also have great specials. I got a tree lopper for $9 at Aldi that sells for $20 at Home Depot. Same with many other useful items.
The German thing—still reliving WW2? Germany and Japan have been U.S. allies for some time now.
I think it depends what day and time you go. I go on a weekend morning, when there has been heavy shopping the night before. There are always 3 or 4 employees out restocking the shelves. We're on a “Hi, how you doin’” basis.
“Any app you install is a backdoor for that outfit — to do what they wish with.”
Correct.
Freepers who fall for the “privacy” claims of anybody are being duped.
It is not just that the companies lie—they may be subject to backdoors or other hacks they do not know about...
Any decent modern intelligence service or information gathering private company has endless ways to circumvent “privacy”—they laugh at it.
Aldi has been cheaper for comparable items, at least in this area (Baltimore-Washington).
How does that work for fresh fruits and vegetables -- are you satisfied with what they send you? Which vendor to you mostly use?
“You can also take corrugated boxes in which their dry goods were shipped, free, from a large wire crate and use them to take your groceries home”
Beware of roaches hooking a ride on cardboard boxes. We think that’s how dem roaches got into our kitchen.
It’s a hit and miss. Sometimes, the produce is just fine (I usually order lettuce, cherry tomatoes, onions, and cauliflower). Otherwise, not so great. But when the lettuce at Walmart is 1.48 per head and 2.99-3.99 at the grocery store, I’ll take what I can get at a cheap price. Sometimes I’ll just go to my local store for produce. I did order a bag of apples from Walmart and they were just fine.
Good...I only see that they want total self-checkout...I wait for a person ...but if prices are not tagged I will dog out an employee until I’m done shopping and they WILL lose money.
