The Paramount+ series Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies has been canceled after just one season, making it the latest woke TV show to fall flat with audiences.
To add insult to injury, Paramount+ will remove the series from its platform, effectively erasing any trace of its existence. The cost-saving decision — the studio will presumably reap tax benefits while also saving on residuals and administrative expenses — is an indication of just how few people were streaming the show.
Pink Ladies creator Annabel Oakes posted a desperate message to her Instagram Stories Friday, blasting the studio’s decision.
“In a particularly brutal move, it is also being removed from @paramountplus next week and unless it finds a new home you will no longer be able to watch it anywhere,” she wrote. “The cast, my creative partners, and I are all devastated at the complete erasure of our show.”
Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies was intended as prequel to the popular 1978 movie starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John, which itself was set during the late 1950s. But the show’s creative team imposed a woke anachronistic interpretation on Rydell High School, creating lesbian kissing scenes and focusing on the racial identity politics of ethnic minority characters.

I thought Meredith MacRae was hot when I was a kid.
“I wanted to be in the water tank with ‘the girls’.”
Meanwhile, Velma gets a second season.🤣
That has been obvious for almost 2 decades now...
My father and I used to watch The Flip Wilson Show, Sanford and Son, and Chico and the Man. Of the three, my mom only liked the Flip Wilson Show. We couldn’t stand All in the Family long enough to get through an episode. The theme song alone was just too screechy.
Flip Wilson was a funny man. I had an uncle who was an unabashed bigot, and even he appreciated Flip’s talent.
He shared your assessment that these venues are for escapism and audiences strongly resent having ugly reality unexpectantly slapping them in the face when they're trying to relax and have a nice respite away from it. That grandstanding wrestler was both unprofessionally self-important and disrespectful to his industry fellows dedicated to entertaining us.
"Shut Up and Sing" applies, in spirit, to all aspects of entertainment.
Excellent post. You said in one sentence what it took me an entire lengthy post to try to convey!
Alas, I do not have the gift of brevity!
Green Acres is the place for me.
I loved The Jeffersons back during its initial run.
Don’t forget “Sanford and Son” or “Chico and the Man”
#21 Lori Saunders was the best!
Mary Ann from Gilligan’s Island and Baily from WKRP were also the best!
Excuse me. Did you not read the article and comments? Case closed.
Woke is bad news. How much of an audience would there be for the show even without the wokeness though? It’s not like there are still only three or four channels and everybody has to watch whatever’s on. No doubt the people behind the show are propagandists, but if they were just putting on another “Laverne and Shirley” would they have gotten much of an audience or even have gotten the go-head from Paramount?
Awww, too bad.
Did you like Top Gun last summer? It streams there. A lot of their shows and movies aren’t very woke and are rather decent. Plus Star Trek!!!

The desperation is palatable... Your show sucked... Just because there is tons of money to make all these Hollywood driven series and shows... Doesn’t mean that we are required to watch all this nonsense.
You still need an audience and if your show can’t garner enough viewers... Then you obviously don’t have an audience. When it comes to minority... Despite the rumors... LBGTQRST&XYZ is the minority of the minorities. You don’t have an audience.
That’s another favorite of mine. No woke. Just good old fashioned sitcom. And Arnold Ziffel was the star of that show.
I doubt that has anything to do with it - this is the streaming service that has RuPaul’s Drag Race as one of its flagship programs and other similarly woke programming. Seems like virtually every advert for this streaming service contains it.
One of the flagship shows for this streaming service is RuPaul's Drag Race.
Much of them are - especially its flagship program. And subscribers to this service fund this stuff and thereby affect the culture.
