Chief diversity officer and senior vice president of Disney, Latondra Newton, has quit her role after more than six years following a devastating box office bombs from recent ‘woke’ films.
In an internal memo from Disney chief human resources officer Sonia Coleman announcing Newton’s departure on Tuesday:
Newton “decided to leave The Walt Disney Company to pursue other endeavors.”
Newton plans to join the corporate board of another company while focusing on the creative company she owns, according to Deadline.
Since 2017, Newton led Disney’s diversity and inclusion initiatives to produce entertainment “that reflects a global audience and sustains a welcoming and inclusive workplace for everyone,” according to her profile.
During Newton’s time at Disney, including the co-signing of Bob Iger and Bob Chapek in the May 2020 memo to Disney staff in the wake of the George Floyd killing, titled “Resolve in the Time of Unrest.” I
In the memo, she pledged “to use our compassion, our creative ideas, and our collective sense of humanity to ensure we are fostering a culture that acknowledges our people’s feelings and their pain. We also realize that now more than ever is the time for us all to further strengthen our commitment to diversity and inclusion everywhere.”
Before her stint at Disney, Newton was Group Vice President, Social Innovation, and Chief Diversity Officer. Toyota Motor North America, Inc. and Chief Program Officer, Toyota Mobility Foundation, Toyota Motor Corporation.
Newton’s departure from the company follows major woke box office bombs, including “The Little Mermaid,” which featured Black American singer Halle Bailey as Princess Ariel.
The movie must gross over $560 million to cover its production costs.
This was followed by the release of the Disney Pixar movie Elemental which features a non-binary character using they/them pronouns, which also flopped.
The production featured characters ‘tackling’ racism and xenophobia and ranked as one of the lowest box office debuts in Pixar movie history.
Disney spent $200 million making it and opened with a $29.5 million recoup.
In April, The Daily Fetched reported that two animated Disney movies that embraced woke LGBTQ ideology became the biggest box office flops of 2022, losing the company a quarter of a billion dollars.
“Strange World,” which featured Disney’s first out gay teen hero, lost Disney almost $200 million, receiving the lowest audience score in Dsiney’s history of animated films with a “B” rating.
The film had a $317.4 million budget but earned a measly $73.6 million at the box office, according to Deadline.
Meanwhile, the Disney film “Lightyear,” which featured a gay kissing scene, became another major flop losing the company $106 million at the box office, earning the lowest CinemaScore of any “Toy Story” movie.
Just saw this posted on Twitter:
Why are all the ugly girls from the same country?
Like where even is 🏳️🌈…?
Time for Disney to dig deep and double down!
Time to release of “Dylan’s year of Girlhood, a Celebration!” animated feature!
Its been my experience that “diversity officers” in corporations don’t do much, except bloat corporate bureaucracies and issue reports full of woke slogans that no one reads. I expect she had little/no input into the film-making process
Disney is already “woke” through and through. There’s plenty of other people responsible for their bad movies.
“Latondra”?? Do I need to look… no.
In an internal memo from Disney chief human resources officer Sonia Coleman announcing Newton’s departure on Tuesday:
Here are several indicators a business is not maximizing shareholder wealth and meeting its fiduciary responsibilities to shareholders. They have a Chief Diversity Officer and a Chief Human Resources Officer. Plus, they have women in any so-called leadership role.
I think it’s kind of weird how these companies expect to make money on movies that cater exclusively to a tiny minority of their audience. It speaks to the big megaphone that’s provided to those tiny minorities. Doesn’t translate to box office ratings where the money comes out of the wallets.
Oh Sheesh. Not another French woman.
What do frogs know about Disney?
You’d think these corporations would learn that hiring a ‘diversity officer’ cost the company much more than salary and benefits.
More than the French, that's for sure.
“Time to release of “Dylan’s year of Girlhood, a Celebration!” animated feature!”
Oh, God. Don’t give them ideas!!!
Too gay for her at Disney.
Does that mean "panders to the Chinese Communist Party"?
“Latondra” failed?
I’m shocked
/s
Diversity CEO = let’s commit corporate suicide.
Don’t need to look at Sonia Coleman either...
I agree. Any “diversity” anything is nothing more than pinko feel-good subsidies.
Hey Disney bring back Song of the South! I bet it would sell out.
