Pick your grift... which of these holidays is the most wholly fabricated (hurry and vote before George Floyd's birthday is added to the ballot)?
Kawanza is silly. But Juneteenth celebrates a day that slaves were freed. I think in Texas.
I think freeing the slaves was one of the five most important events in US history — I’m very comfortable celebrating that. So I respectfully disagree with your take on Juneteenth.
Juneteenth commemorates an actual event; whether or not it should be a Federal holiday is a separate issue.
Kwanzaa is a made up week-long celebration of what in the old days used to be called Negritude. If it weren’t so vehemently racist, it might be a reasonable celebration of seven virtues.
We need more holidays!
Sweetest Day is a scam......
Yes.
Kwanzaa is fake.
Juneteenth is real.
It’s like Star Wars and Star Trek..................
The administration needs to re-announce the June 19th holiday as Black and Trans Independence Day. Honor both at once and have trans contingents in all the Juneteenth parades!
That would be Kwanzaa. Completely made up, whereas apparently Juneteenth was historically observed. However, what’s irksome about the latter is its formal title “Juneteenth National Independence Day.” The concept is “liberation,” not “independence.” The non sequitor is an intentional effort to give the day the same importance as July Fourth Independence Day. If it were appropriate to equate the two, which it’s not, the proper day would be the day the day the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, not the anniversary of this insecure event
I list it right at the top with the Mexican Beer Holiday, Cinco de Mayo. They all are a joke.
Kwanzuh! Thought of opening a chain of “Kwanzaa Huts” for all things kwanzaa but couldn’t get a loan. 😲😂👍
As for Juneteenth, it's a real thing, but a very minor event in that it only reflected something in a relatively small area (Galveston, Texas); was years after the Emancipation Proclamation, and several months after the surrender of the Confederacy, which effectively ended slavery throughout the country.
kwanzaaaaa, hands down.
Come out, ye Black and Trans!
Those seven virtues form a framework of socialism. No thanks.
Two of those “virtues” are flat out Marxist BS:
Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility)
Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics)
Juneteenth is real.
Kwanza is made up by a sicko.
Had to fire a girl for trying to take off for Kwanza. Told her that it was a fake holiday, she was out of Vaca, berevement, and sick days by OCTOBER!.......she didn’t come in. No call. No show. No job. I really enjoyed taking her keys and walking her out while being called a racist!
June teeth is real. It’s been more of a regional celebration.
Acceppt freeing the slaves didn’t occur on Juneteenth!
That’s a local Texas thing.
Freeing the slaves occurred with the passage of the 13th Amendment ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the states (27 of the 36 states, including those that had been in rebellion), Secretary of State Seward, on December 18, 1865
So December 18th is the true date.
Of course, we can’t do anything that highlights the Constitution!
