Kawanza is silly. But Juneteenth celebrates a day that slaves were freed. I think in Texas.
I think freeing the slaves was one of the five most important events in US history — I’m very comfortable celebrating that. So I respectfully disagree with your take on Juneteenth.
Acceppt freeing the slaves didn’t occur on Juneteenth!
That’s a local Texas thing.
Freeing the slaves occurred with the passage of the 13th Amendment ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the states (27 of the 36 states, including those that had been in rebellion), Secretary of State Seward, on December 18, 1865
So December 18th is the true date.
Of course, we can’t do anything that highlights the Constitution!

Your ignorance of Juneteenth is appalling. Freeing the slaves did not happen on June 19.
I think we all agree that freeing slaves was an important positive event, but if Lincoln, the guy who ended slavery, can share Washington’s Birthday as a national holiday, I think Juneteenth can share MLK’s birthday.
If the had an ounce of logic they would celebrate Lincoln’s birthday for it.
this kzanza or whatever is just a made up one and nobody follows it but we put up with the media pushing it like its some great thing.....its silly.....

Lincoln’s Birthday would not be recognized had he not freed the slaves ie, the emancipation proclamation. We already have MLK Day which pays tribute to the blacks. I say enough with the BS.
Juneteenth commemorates an actual date and event. The other is a bit less genuine than Festivus.
Juneteenth celebrates the day news of the Emancipation Proclamation, which had been signed 18 months earlier, reached Texas. It is a black mark (ahem) on the history of my state.

Same here. If Juneteenth ever morphs into a belligerent demand for reparations, though, I’ll have a problem with it.
