Someone I know went to Tractor Supply today to buy a chick. The individual was told that he/she had to supply a phone number and updated address to buy the chicks. I called and asked about the situation and a manager confirmed it. No address, no chicks.
He claimed it was a Tractor Supply policy, but I know better than that. Obviously, the Feds are noticing huge numbers of people buying chicks are are now forcing retailers to track who's buying. All of this has gone too far. I am going to call this the beginning of the Chicken Wars.
What would you do if you were shopping at tractor supply company?
Answer below :-)

Guess I won’t be buying chickens from Tractor Supply.
Avian flu tracking.
At least you were buying chicks and not dudes.
My TS has been like that going back a couple decades.
Well nowadays, most if not all retailers want your name, address, phone number and how old are your kids.
My guess is, Tractor Supply thinks a minimum of four chicks is what is needed to insure their survival. Chickens are social birds and do best in flocks and I suspect chicks do too.
No money for nothing, or your chicks for free.
ROFL!!! The manager just told me in a follow-up call that it was for both ag exemption reasons and some people are using them for “dog food” (an obvious lie). Who in their right mind would pay that kind of cost to feed them to dogs??? The Feds have to be forcing them, and probably others, to record WHO is buying chickens. This is nuts. Say something folks. Go to your local Tractor Supply and give ‘em hell. The person I know told them off, said feeding them to dogs was stupid, put the chicks back and marched out.
You’ve been getting your chicks in the wrong place.
2009 thread on the subject.

They have any that look like Rachel Welsh?
We cannot buy chicks. The Parish rules require 100 feet from another house. Etc. Etc. Etc.
So likely Tractor Supply are trying to avoid selling to people who are not allowed chicks.
It must have all started with Radio Shack, tracking people building p-box circuit boards.
Seriously, I have had a UPS Store address for decades, and the AZ MVD even lets me put it on my driver’s license. Doesn’t stop government connecting the dots if they put in the effort, put really weeds out a lot of garbage in other realms, and is handy if you have an unexpected move.
I don’t see them as dog food but reptile food, yes. I knew a guy in High Skrool that used to patronize the “free kittens” signs on telephone poles when it was time to feed his python.
