The crazed ex-boyfriend of a popular Florida high school softball star repeatedly stabbed his former flame before cutting his own throat in a desperate suicide bid, cops said.
The grisly, broad-daylight assault in posh Ponte Vedra Beach near Jacksonville was interrupted only after a courageous good Samaritan spotted the frenzied attack and intervened, according to police.
Madison Schemitz, 17, a rising senior at Ponte Vedra High School, was eating at a restaurant Saturday with her mother, Jackie Roge, and friend Casey Estep when they spotted Spencer Pearson, a recent graduate of the school and a former football player.
Estep told local reporters that Schemitz had recently broken up with the 18-year-old and that he had since threatened her with violence.

Wait, a GUY and a softball player?
Why post this? This is not Jerry Springer.
So....does that mean being the sister to 5 siblings extend the road to recovery?
I wonder if weed was a contributing factor? There is a lot of weed (Mary Jane) use down there. Along with all the differeing forms of THC delivery (gummies, dabs, vapes etc...), it has become readily available and is quite odiferous at intersections. I was somewhat taken aback by the omnipresence of its use. That was 5 years ago, I cannot imagine its use has diminished.
Kudos to young Mr. Armstrong, who rushed in to help rather than record the event on his cell phone.

FR does get its share of sensationalism. But I suppose there is some value in reminding naive folks that evil exists everywhere. So try not to let your guard down too much.
Just be careful of the type of boy your daughters date, some are very violent and domestic violence among youth is not uncommon.
I don't disagree with the sentiment, but in actuality our whole nation has become the Jerry Springer show.
The boy is a handsome, talented athlete. Would think no problem finding another girlfriend. Anti-depressants? This world is going insane.
Many crime stories are posted here. Crime is news, too.
And, in this case, a bystander jumped in to save the victims and suffered injury himself.
This story deserves a thread on FR.

Yes, indeed. If there is anything good about this story, it’s that a hero stepped in. God bless him.
As a side note, this story illustrates the importance of a good guy always having a weapon available. It doesn’t have to be a firearm. Some folks just aren’t into that.
But police-grade pepper spray can work (Sabre and Fox are good brands). Or maybe even a baseball bat in the trunk of your car. The hero in this particular story was in his car when he heard the girl’s screams. A Louisville Slugger would have come in handy.
“Wait, a GUY and a softball player?”
Sure looks like a girl to me!
I was thinking of steroids so he could bulk up for college.
I was thinking it was the knife’s fault.
Steroids can make you nutty so that knifing someone feels right.
Agreed. Different weapons can work as protection for different people. Maybe one of the weapons you listed would’ve kept this young hero from being injured himself. Whatever the case, kudos to him for saving the day, and I hope he and the other victims recover fully.
Murder-Suicide is often SSRIs.
Madison is a girl’s name...
