The problem has grown so severe that the Japanese have a term for it: Hikikomori, one who literally withdraws from society.

During a recent interview with Chris Williamson, a British podcaster based in Austin, Texas, the political economist Nicholas Eberstadt discussed the fact that 7 million men of prime working age are currently without employment and not seeking jobs. Many of these men, said Eberstadt, spend inordinate amounts of time indoors, totally withdrawn from society.

Yup. Cowboys used to living in a cabin during the winter, mostly by themselves. Solitary confinement for 5 months.
It’s the “Lots of Fish in the Sea” syndrome, people think if they just keep trying, eventually they’ll find somebody who ticks off all the boxes.

As an older guy, the majority of people that try to contact me are trying to get something out of me. Not talking to people is a feature not a bug.
True, the sex is free. You’re paying her to leave.
I don’t doubt that could be a very real possibility. It’s incredible how short sighted people can be. She has the 99% and will forgo it all to try and get that extra 1%, while ruining many parts of the existing 99%. Unreal.
It’s as though life has become far too easy, self centered, and we’re pumping out narcissistic behaviors (the one thing I do see in her).
Who wants to play a part in what modern societies offer today anyway? Me? I’m off in the mountains. I want nothing more to do with society - other than to burn it down and start over, of course.

I think you make some very valid and interesting points. A related issue is that one no longer gets any respect for risk taking.
I’m quite angry tbh. Of course I’ve bias, but my son, a former Marine, is tough, loyal, a great protector, is very active with the girls’ activities, does his share of chores, brings home a salary, no substance abuse, etc.. We’ve all had a good relationship, and we babysit all the time.
Poof! Great to gone, on a whim.
I didn’t get any attention either, so I went to the Philippines, where white men are prized. 👍
It’s definitely an act of stupidity on her part.
She is playing out a fantasy, that she can join another man and he will be the father to her children and she will live happily ever after.
What is more likely to happen is that the new man will play along, until she tries to make it permanently. Then he will exit the relationship before he has to take on the responsibility of the children.
Hopefully your son will go for custody.

Unfortunately, we are encouraging Ukraine to use their men in war.

“Best friend” means she no longer finds her husband sexually attractive.
It would be very unusual for her to go for divorce in that situation (especially with young children) unless she had already started another relationship behind his back.
It is also highly unlikely the “new guy” is interested in a long term relationship with a women with kids—of course he hasn’t told her that...yet.

That is a trend - and western women are getting upset about it. They think they can dictate to men what a man “should” want - which is their “boss babe” attitude. They want to settle, they want a traditional man, but don’t understand they’re not a traditional wife (material). They’ve been taught that a high body count “shouldn’t matter”, without realizing to men, that want a wife, don’t like that.
Astonishing.
One thing in common for these changes.
Overwhelming screen use.
That is an international phenomenon.
They aren’t sitting in their rooms reading books.
We are killing our younger generation with screens .
