The Postal Service also advises parents to not allow children to take mail directly from mail carriers, as the dog may view it as a threat to the child’s safety.

Feds probably have a menacing odor that even dogs understand.

Um, aren’t Cali, NY and Texas also very populous states?
The USPO should scale the bites by population to give a more accurate view of the problem.

In Minneapolis many years ago they caught a mail carrier poisoning dogs on his route.

Dog owners need to be held directly accountable for their animals regardless of what “breed” it is.
If a dog bites a postal carrier, the dog should be put down immediately and the owner should be charged and jailed as if they themselves did the assault.

I was a summer letter carrier until third year of medical school.
Cased up the mail, walked a city route with a bag, hit the relays, carried the keys. Hid out in the diner after the last stop. Only job that’s 8.5 hours on the clock that can be done in 4.
The dog issue isn’t a joke.

Dogs intuitively know about people.
Maybe these are the same PO employees that threw away Trump mail in ballots?
If so, NOT GUILTY!

I can tell you that in PA, if your dog bites, it will likely be classified as a dangerous dog. You will be required to carry special insurance, keep a muzzle on in public, and your fenced area must include a top.
If you are sued in PA, about 8 years ago, you generally settled for $25k.

“When our mail carriers are bitten, it is usually a ‘good dog’ that had not previously behaved in a menacing way"That is how put bull owners describe their dogs after they attack someone for no reason.

I read electric meters for a a couple years. There was only one dog I had issues with and I couldn’t get out of the truck. When I saw him at the neighbor’s house he was a good boy.
On another note my dog growing up would always hassle the paperboy. My best friend was our paperboy for a few years and he didn’t get a pass while delivering. When my friend showed up after his route, my dog had no bad words.

These numbers sound reasonable. More than 5,300 USPS employees were “attacked.” Zero deaths or serious injuries reported in the article.
Some of the attacks were certainly justified, and the dogs were doing their jobs defending the home.
