Rotten Tomatoes wants you to think The Little Mermaid remake earned a near-perfect audience score
BGR ^

Critics have clearly responded to the movie with a collective “meh,” since that 67% score above is just a few percentage points away from the site’s “rotten” designation that starts at 59%. However, take a look at that near-perfect audience score. Quite a lopsided response here, don’t you think? The audience score is a very stellar 95%, based on more than 2,500 verified audience ratings (and that “verified” designation is important, which is why we’ll come back to it in just a moment).

It’s raked in $211M so far and imdb gives i 7.6/10. Money is the only rating that matters.

“But did they make the story politically correct???”

Well, the mermaid is black......does that qualify?

“remade to feature a black in a role written as a white character”

There’s a lot of that in hollies you think about it.

James West

Ralph Cramden

Nick Fury

And i’m sure there’s more that escape me

IMDb has made “adjustments” to the reviews, which are 4.7 “unweighted”. They “adjuste” it allegedly due to conservatives “review bombing” the movie.

the reviews don’t matter. the $$$ do. That is a huge box office but cost was $250 million. The Elvis movie is showing just a little higher for box office (last year numbers) but a budget of $85 million

The movie has become an outlet for conservative rage against Karen culture, but really the movie itself is not that bad. The "black" mermaid is mostly white, and the message to little impressionable princesses seems to be to try to marry a white prince, the top of the gene pool.

I want to see a remake of “Downfall” with an all-black cast. That ought to be fun!

No parent is basing their decision to go see this movie on Rotten Tomatoes reviews. If your little girl tells you she wants to go see “The Little Mermaid”, it’s very difficult to tell her “no, because Disney is working to corrupt and debase American society”, even though it’s true.

Just show her the original.

Rotten Tomatoes, in response to perceived “review bombing” - where people who haven’t seen the movie give it highly unfavorable or highly favorable reviews - came up with “Verified Reviews”.

Verified Reviews are people who purchase tickets through certain online providers like Fandango. If you just go to the theater and buy your ticket, you are a lesser reviewer in the eyes of Rotten Tomatoes.

Some are charging that this system is rigged. They claim that major studios can distribute tickets for free through providers like Fandango and harvest good reviews. This certainly seems to be the case with The Little Mermaid remake where the verified reviews have come in at 95% fresh and stayed there and the unverified AND the critics reviews (!) are much, much lower.

I don’t even look at the “verified” audience reviews anymore. I drill straight to “all audience reviews” to see what the real people say.

I watched “Cocaine Bear” last night. It doesn’t have anything to do with a “little mermaid”, but at least it based on a true event.
That was one mean-ass bear…

some of you might first do a bit of research online to see if this big new release will be worth your while.

With very few exceptions, the answer these days is almost universally "No, it will not be worth your while, much less your money."
