Earlier this month, on the floor of the Texas House, Palestine Republican Cody Harris spoke about HB 3729, a piece of legislation that could impact tens of millions of Texans.

He was brief: “Members, it’s time to end mandatory vehicle inspections,” he said in an unanimated voice, “and that’s exactly what this bill does.”

A 4 year old car can be on blad tires and completely shot brakes with a dashboard full of warning lights that indicate disabled safety equipment.

It doesn’t take long with zero care.

I disagree. There needs to be some basic standards that should be inspected to qualify a vehicle on the roads. They don’t need to be as stringent as California or Maryland’s for example, but the basics should be a no brainer. Without them, roads and Texas vehicles will be potentially unsafe.

Which means they have insurance at least part of the year and tires with tread.

If this passes the penalty for uninsured drivers should be the forfeiture of the vehicle. Allow cops to troll park8ng lots and check by license plates

Yes, they will pay for it. Bet Texas will have some of the highest insurance rates in the country in very shortly.

No brakes, bald tires, broken lights—what could possibly go wrong?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
That’s been the norm in Texas for years. Look at half the cars with expired renewal stickers in lower income areas.
People carry no insurance, their cars won’t pass inspection. And who has $80 to renew the annual registration?
Uh, you do realize that most states don’t require inspections right?
There are plenty of Mexicans around SA that carry no insurance. There are also plenty of Anglos and blacks that don’t either. SA is the kingdom of uninsured motorists. SA is a dim chithole.
Too late with your prediction. Texas has had high rates for years.
The state of Georgia requires annual inspections.
“Exactly. Texas is like only 1 of 13 states to still require inspections.”
Holdover from the days when the Democrats ran Texas...
To the RINOS here:
Why did Florida stop vehicle inspections?
Has Florida Ever Had Mandatory Emissions Inspections? Florida hasn’t had emissions tests or state inspections since 1981 when Governor Bob Graham did away with them, citing high costs of tests and long wait times.
In Arizona there has to be a certain number of people within a 20 mile radius for the inspections to kick in. People in rural areas don’t need nor should they have to put up with this nonsense.
And they will go up fast. As others say, even periodic inspections help remove unsafe cars with broken windshields, nonworking lights, bald tires, worn brakes, etc. And the lapse of checking for insurance, etc.
So, what is the plan to offset this? Just let them kill each other and innocent victims?
