In 2005, I lived in Nashville producing national TV spots. Like you, I appreciated its history. However, I LOVED Chattanooga! It was beautiful, small, and felt remote. I hope you do it!

I can’t give you specifics ie cost of living, etc……but I can tell you Hixson would be a good choice.
It’s across the Tennessee River from Chattanoooga proper, so you have the best of both worlds…
Hixson is a quiet bedroom community, but is actually incorporated into Chatttanooga

I can even recommend churches there as I have family in the area.

I think a small town would be best for you. Something large enough to give you services, but one with still small town feel.

My son lived in Chattanooga. I didn’t see any old people. I assume they were all killed off from the crazy drivers they have there

Tennessee is where I am looking as well but at some point, there is no place else to run. We will have to fight the Leftist communists (i.e. democrats) at some point.

I’m actually going to a job interview outside of Nashville (LaVergne) on Monday, as we are looking to relocate from Indiana.

My biggest stress and anxiety is from the change in housing prices since I bought my house very cheap here. I’ll get a good profit from selling, but prices are sky high to purchase and much higher interest rates too, so I’m really stressing it.

Chattanooga itself may be too urban, congested and traffic-burdened for you. Fast growth putting pressure on a previously ‘small’ city.

Don’t know your preferences but if you are looking for a final home, look in far suburban Chattanooga. Otherwise the growth and incumbent issues/costs will overcome you.

We too live in N Georgia, rural, in a location far enough from Atlanta or Chattanooga to be ruined by blue growth.

All I can say is my MIL’s boyfriend moved down to TN from PA some 15 years ago to be near his disabled former-navy son and family. He loved it down there. They were rural and this man built himself a little house and literally adopted a stray terrier off the street as his pet.

Good choice. I relocated to TN two years ago. Left all of my close family in MA. I have not regretted my decision once. One piece of advise...which you seem to have already considered...stay as far East as you can. Western TN has serious issues. Good luck!

Alaska wouldn’t work for me. I’d absolutely LOVE the hunting and fishing. But the long periods of cold would be a deal breaker as I had frostbite many years ago. Plus in general I do not like the cold. But I’d be happy to visit (in Summer of course).

I would also look at Johnson City, Bristol and part of SW Va. I live in a VA county bordering WV and we have a manufacturing plant that is going full tilt. Everyone is hiring.

Was based and lived in Tenn for years, love it, the place is beautiful, folks are good, it was my 2nd choice for retirement. Chattanooga is a great choice. Good luck with your move.

I’m going to tag along reading the replies. We have considered Tennessee in the Chattanooga area, actually closer to Cleveland. Issues for us are eventual health care and access to a decent airport. The natural surroundings are the big draw for us, and the people are genuine and kind souls. Real estate there looks to be pretty expensive, more than we expected, perhaps because we are hoping for lake or river property eventually. Also waiting for a sign from God about timing. Whenever we’ve had big moves, it has always been very clear that it was His Will for us somewhere in the process.

Consider relocating to South Dakota. Great people, beautiful country and no state income tax. Also so far mostly untainted by leftists fleeing their blue state dung heaps.

Chattanooga is a real nice place. Stay away from Nashville and Memphis.

I’m glad you rethought AK.

Move to Alaska?
You will be stomped on by a moose then the wolves will gnaw on you then a grizzly will will chomp on you.
Worst of all will be the mosquitos. They will drain your blood in minutes!

"Tennessee presidential results - 2020" (We use this to determine a state's political leaning.)
