Queen or queen consort? What to know about Camilla’s title
AP ^ | 5/6/2023

Now that she has been crowned alongside her husband, King Charles III’s wife is officially known as Queen Camilla.

While it sounds more official than “queen consort,” the changing of titles does not signify any practical difference in the role of the 75-year-old royal.

Queen consorts do not formally share the sovereign’s powers, and dropping the “consort” part of the title does not change that. Nonetheless, the change marks a milestone in Camilla’s decadeslong road to rehabilitating her image — from someone once reviled as the other woman in Charles’ first marriage to Princess Diana, to a senior royal member largely accepted by the British public.

The question of what title Camilla would hold when Charles became king has long been a subject of contention, due to sensitivity about her status as Charles’ second wife.

Camilla and her first husband, Andrew Parker-Bowles, divorced in 1995, shortly after Charles gave an explosive television interview admitting his relationship with Camilla. Charles and Diana divorced the following year. In 1997, there was a global outpouring of grief when Diana died in a car crash. Camilla and Charles waited until 2005 to marry in a low-key private civil ceremony.

Maybe I misread your comment. Yes, I was talking about Camilla.

Philip was not known as ‘King’, so why should Camilla be called ‘Queen’?

Does anyone watch The Windsors on Netflix? The role of Camilla is hysterical, they all are actually. She’s portrayed as conniving to the portrayal of Charles’ as a dolt. Very funny show. Btw, the Netflix account is not mine. I’ve been using my son’s account for ages, well he it’s they went woke, in case anyone’s wondering.

“Having an affair with a married man is a low life.”

Especially when the woman is married as well.

The Queen Mother would be the mother of the current monarch.

Camilla is William’s stepmother. So she will probably be known as Queen Dowager (if Charles passes away first).

"They are and have been in love with each other for a very long time."

That doesn't mean they get a pass for destroying other people's lives by marrying people they didn't love, having children with them, and then dumping their spouses to continue the illicit affair they'd been having all along. If Charles had had any balls, he would have told his old man that he would never marry someone he didn't love, even if it meant being removed from the line of succession. He could have saved a lot of people a lot of heartache by being honest. Even Prince Edward was more honest than his great nephew ever was.

As I understand it, Camilla is technically a Queen Consort - just as Diana would have been, and Catherine will be.

All will/would be called ‘Queen’.

None of them were or are royal.

Charles was screwing one of his subordinate's officer's wives.

In the US military that would result in you spending several years making big rocks into little rocks.

"I still say she looks like a man in drag."

There are two females in white in this video, walking onto the balcony, briefly speaking to Camilla, then she directs them to a spot where they should stand. One of them may be her sister, but they both resemble her...all Rottweilers.

Yes. It is very unfortunate that Charles could not marry Camilla. He used Diana to get an heir and a spare. Clearly Charles did not love Diana.

Yeah.

And he lost his three of his sons, a daughter, ten concubines and his kingdom. Payment.

Doing it is not the issue.

Doing it and everyone shrugging and saying "oh well that is just the way he is..." That is a problem.

... That doesn't mean they get a pass ...

from you. Then you don't have to "give them a pass."

I'll give Camilla the benefit of being the true love of his life, and him hers, as opposed to a lowlives.

People who really know nothing about how things actually happened but seem to believe they do - THAT is a problem.
