The ceremony will take place in New York City, where players such as Ted Williams and Bob Feller undoubtedly will be remembered. Williams flew 37 combat missions in World War II and Korea, and Feller missed four seasons to serve in the Army, enlisting after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941.
The USS Cooperstown joins the active fleet of Freedom-variant littoral combat ships. The Department of Defense describes LCS ships as "fast, optimally-manned, mission-tailored surface combatants that operate in near-shore and open-ocean environments."
Johnny Bench and Joe Torre represented their fellow Hall of Fame members at the ceremony.

Nice - thank you....A lot of history there with our old MLB stars! We grew up with their names!!!
At least they aren’t having that tranny guy there...
Probably just because they smashed a bottle of champagne to christen the ship instead of a quart of Budlite.
LOL...Good point...
Warren Spahn!!!!!!
Purple Heart and Bronze Star awardee....
It’s great that they made an effort to recognize those old war horses. But it would have been neater if they’d used a class of ship that they will actually use. The Navy is trying to give away the whole LCS class since they don’t work as advertised. As best as I can tell the completed ones are parked already. They have a stupid, stoopid, power plant and drive line that is way too complex for a combatant.
I can’t figure out why the Navy would order so many ships with unproven technology without building a prototype or two first and seeing how they fared over time. Call me cynical, but the only explanation I can think of is there was massive graft involved.
Yogi Berra - Purple Heart WWII
Too many congress critters didn't want to cut off the pork in their local districts. As I recall, a couple of years ago the Navy tried to cancel all unconstructed LCS(Littoral Combat ShipsLittle Crappy Ships) and congress added funding for even more.
I think, looking at the shenanigans of many current athletes, Pete Rose should finally take his place in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Career-wise he earned it.
Sorry but I’ll never forgive Rose for what he did to Ray Fosse. Pete must have bet a lot of money on that All-Star game, and forgot it was just an All-Star game.
Now that he's old and creaky there's a good chance for damage or death even if done right. Will that do it for you?
Should be called the USS Hoboken. Abner Doubleday and the city of Cooperstown, charming though it is, have nothing to do with the invention of baseball.
Woke destroys baseball, woke destroys our military, the Demagogic Party kisses some ass to try to claw back some fake legitimacy.
Those LCS’s are death traps. Who designs a “combat ship” that’s all aluminum above the waterline??
