In the clips shared to social media, masses of garbage could be seen charging down canals and storm drains, the water carrying it virtually invisible for all of the junk.
“These are the trash tsunamis of Indonesia and it will all end up in the ocean,” clean-up environmentalist Gary Bencheghib, who shared the clip, wrote.
“We can no longer turn a blind eye to these waves of plastic.”
“The trash is not the problem. It’s the people. If they don’t waste from the beginning, there will still be trash but maybe better managed,” another wrote.
Others called for a more constructive approach than shaming the people who had contributed to the trash.

Nope. It's Trump's fault.
Our country got a lot neater and cleaner after wwii.
There was a movement to pick up debris and every city and town had trash containers.
But itwas anew idea for many as was tooth brushing.
Social pressure is perhaps the best thing going for us in the USA...

Your comment reminded me of a recent FRpost about “shopping cart theory”. When discussing that theory with friends someone brought up “gas station gum” and how it is the people spit their gum out right on the ground in front of the pumps, when there’s always a garbage can two feet away.

Silly me! I forgot the obvious.
Culture and DNA. Trashy dirty violent people like living among trash and dirt with violence.
I had a coworker/friend back in the 90’s who was very anal about trash in his car. Every time I was with him in his car he had litter bags with trash in them and his car was impeccable. One day we were driving from Grand Rapids to Lake Michigan and about halfway there, in the middle of nowhere he reached down, grabs the litter bag and chucked it out the window. I still can’t figure that out. Where we were going had trash cans.
Be sure to post it if you find out how. If we can keep out knowledge, we’ll rule the place.
