McDonald's has laid off hundreds of workers and cut pay packages for others after shuttering officers across the US.
The fast food firm slashed roles across all departments including marketing, operations, store staff and field offices, the Wall Street Journal reported.
It comes as part of a huge restructuring at the burger giant, which is reportedly part of a bid to re-invent the drive thru across the world.
McDonald's even temporarily shut down offices across the US on Monday as it started to tell some corporate workers about the layoffs.
In recent months, the fast food giant recruited pop culture icons Cardi B and Offset in an attempt to revive the company's fortunes.
Bosses reportedly offered some workers the chance to keep working for the fast food firm but with reduced salaries and changes to their benefits.
The changes are expected to impact at least 10 offices across the US for those working in operations, finance and marketing, leaked emails revealed.
President of McDonald's USA Joe Erlinger said: 'While the McDonald's Brand is in the strongest position it has been in years, we also recognize that our business has grown increasingly complex in recent years.'
Meanwhile an internal email last week said employees should work from Monday to Wednesday so staffing changes could be made virtually.
McDonald's also asked all staff to cancel all in-person meetings with vendors at its headquarters.
U.S. employees laid off exited the company but will remain on the payroll till June 15 and will receive severance after that time.

“Drop the woke bs and maybe some customers will come back.”
nah. They need to make food again. Is there any hamburger in a McDonald’s hamburder?
My first real job was selling candy at a movie theater. Before that I had a paper route starting in 4th grade... It was a better time.
:)
This ie all because they got rid of Ronald McDonald and Mayor McCheese.
I remember going to to movies when movies were $.75 in the summer and candy was $.06 for the Astropops and Lemon drops.
Last year, I went to the movies with friends for the first time in over 10 yrs. (I hate Hollywood.) They bought my ticket, popcorn and soft drink but I went to get a bottle of water in case anyone wanted one. I was standing in line with a dollar in my hand and when I got to the front of the line to hand it to the concession stand worker, my friend’s husband cracked up, put his hand on top of mine to hide my money and with his other hand, put a $10 in the guy’s hand. I had no idea that water was $7. He said, “Yep, it has been a loooooong time since you were at the movies!”
The government behemoth only gets bigger and more costly...government never cuts back like people are forced to do in the private sector. And the debt just grows....
Get rid of all that expensive labor....Look for prices to drop significantly when McWhoppers go all robotic....$1. big macs again!
is
How about the soccer moms with their passel of screaming kids, standing in line for ten minutes and when they get up to the register, only THEN do they ask their kids, “what do you want to eat?” They read the entire f-ing menu to each one and every freaking thing has to be questioned - is there gluten in that, do you have diet root beer, can you make him a hot burger.
I have almost spontaneously combusted. Seriously, they need to go to the back of the line.
Anyone here remember when the apple pies and the french fries were cooked in lard? Heaven. The last McDonald’s cheeseburger I ate appeared to be made with the wonderful unchewable Chinese beef, so never again. They held out for a while.
I keep meaning to watch that. I will make a bigger effort. Thank you!
I’ll make a side bet witcha!! Prices stay the same with only 3-5 employees in each location. Cashier/food handler, helper(s), and a cook.
I stopped going to Starbucks the exact minute when I heard they were paying their employees’ transportation to abortion clinics when there was none nearby.
I see they have now changed from the clubby, warm places we used to have on the Upper West Side of NYC to drop-in closets where there are no chairs and tables and no bathroom. I never went because the product was so wonderful anyway, just for the neighborhood feeling. So I’m not missing anything.
It’s on Netflix, great movie, neat history.
When they pulled the lard, or at least the beef extract in the fry oil, and stopped doing the fried apple pies, was when the Golden Roaches started their decline. . .
Their business model was based on high school kids.
There are no more.
I’ve always used McDonalds as a tool to indicate how badly the dollar has lost its value.
In the 1970s, I remember when the Quarter Pounder with Cheese was first released. The cost was $.65 each. Today, the (roughly) same sandwich is $5.29 in Kansas City. Last week, the large soft drink was $.99, now it’s $1.39, a 40% increase.
But Biden and his spokes-liars are telling us how much prices have gone down, especially on items like energy and gasoline, so we can afford to take vacations.
The only reason gasoline prices have fallen is due to lack of demand, but more to the point, the selling off of our SPR to those willing to pay, including the CCP!

They’re re-inventing the Spitburger?
I’ll have to try it.
You mean if McWhopper goes robotic, eliminating about 90 percent of that expensive labor we've all heard about, the prices will still stay the same?
This probably means prices will probably go up...lol
McDonald”s sales are up from 2020 lows, but I guess they are looking to cut some fat from the corporate level.
