In December 2022, Tesla delivered its first semi-trucks to PepsiCo. Since then, keen-eyed Californians have noticed at least eight trucks seemingly nonoperational, either by the side of the road or being towed home. While Tesla has no media department, sources say the truck problem is as simple as the Semi’s infotainment screens going dead. If so, this would not be a first for Tesla.

So Pepsi bought the first round of $200,000 Tesla Semis to augment its truck fleet hauling products out of its Modesto, California plant.
PepsiCo immediately put its new Tesla trucks to use, hauling both Frito-Lay products and bottles of Pepsi products (though its range dropped to about 100 miles lugging around the soda). It seemed as if the Tesla semi-truck program was off and running. So imagine Tesla fans’ surprise when they began to notice these trucks seemingly broken down by the side of California roads, or even being towed home.
Teslarati reported eight incidents of a Tesla semi truck stranded or being hauled on a hook. Some folks speculated that the trucks must be suffering some serious powertrain issues not to be able to at least unhook from their trailer and limp home. And Tesla refused to make any statement about the trucks.
Teslarati tried to confirm the “breakdowns” and found a tow truck driver who reported hauling some of PepsiCo’s Tesla Semis to a “secret location” in Lathrop, California. A source close to Tesla’s operation in Modesto revealed the truth to Teslarati: some of these semi-truck “breakdowns” are due to the infotainment screens failing. The technical cause of the problem may be a glitch in what’s called a software switch.

Sadly, can’t chew gum and walk in a straight line at the same time.
The FAA, EPA, NASA, and WWO has given them the OK to fully launch the trucks...
If the PepsiCo supply chain is broken ... it won’t affect me at all.
Just wait until BiXiden is in charge of your [body’s] s/w switch...
Now, THAT is a tow-truck.
How's that compare to a diesel?
so, if the infotainment system has a fault it renders the entire Tesla Truck inoperable?
I have had more than a few cars where that annoyingly happened, but never had to get a tow, and it was nothing a call and a few hundred dollar payment to Crutchfield didn’t quickly fix.
Big (cement) truck rolled down a hill and crashed into a house!
I drank a pepsi a day when at noon break in high school. But after that it became maybe 1 a week. By 30 I had pretty much quit pop. My wife gave up 2 a week about 8 years ago.
Not that healthy a product (and the diet pop is surely worse), and overpriced.
Thanks for the tip w/link.
No shortage of “gitin’ ‘er done” web operations as a side gig [or for many now the main revenue generator].
[”...hair point turn...”]
I want to know if the tow truck was a battery operated vehicle.
I got myself down to a 4 can a day habit of diet Pepsi. It’s my only vice
Oh come on everyone..
You all are heading on tesla.
90 percent of them are still on the road.
The other 10 percent made it home!
I got hooked on Pepsi when I was about 20 while working in a pizza restaurant. Before that I never drank much soda pop at all.
Continued drinking it for another 25 years consuming as much as two liters a day. Quit cold turkey about 18 years ago. The improvements in every aspect of my health were significant.
PepsiCo has a lot of other products too, like chips of all types, that I do still like. But I don’t buy Frito/Lay potato chips or tortilla chips. Other brands are better.
Wow! I can’t imagine.
My reasoning is this: If I want something sweet, but am determined to avoid a lot of sweets, what gets priority?
The answer is: about any dessert my wife makes. She’s a marvelous cook. (Doesn’t matter what kind of pie, her crusts are always flaky perfect. Cookies, cupcakes, muffins, etc. are great as well.)
I’ve known people that had pop for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and in between.
Still, 2 liters a day?!
Yeah, I’m sure you do feel healthier since quitting.
The infotainment system (i.e., the radio) in my elderly Ford hasn’t worked since I bought it (used) and the car still runs like a top.
if it’s like a Model S, the “infotainment screen” runs the entire damn car. you have to do everything via that except turn signals, gas pedal and the hazard button.
