For decades, Girl Scouts has used cookie sales to raise funds and teach scouts about entrepreneurship. This year, thanks to the Raspberry Rally cookie, members got a painful lesson in what can happen when high demand meets limited supply.
The much-hyped Rally, a raspberry-flavored spin on the Thin Mint, was always supposed to be a limited-edition cookie. But interest in it seemed to have taken Girl Scouts leadership by surprise — perhaps because of a new online-only ordering system.
As demand surged, with some cookies even ending up on eBay, in some cases listed for about $40 per box, supply stayed the same because cookie makers couldn’t quickly pump out more Rallies. One of the Scouts’ manufacturers, ABC Bakers, said it needs lots of lead time to make limited-edition cookies. The other, Little Brownie Bakers, said bad weather caused power outages at a Kentucky plant, contributing to other inventory issues that lead to tight supply.
As a result, the Rallies sold out rapidly, leaving scouts and parents to explain the situation to annoyed shoppers even as they tried to make sense of it themselves.
Girl Scouts USA seemed surprised by the level of interest in the Raspberry Rally. - Willie J. Allen Jr./Orlando Sentinel/Tribune News Service/Getty Images For young scouts, having to tell customers there are no Rallies available “is a particularly frustrating transaction,” scout parent Betsy Everett told CNN. “When people ask for the new cookie, we tell them the situation and then they don’t want to buy anything. It’s disappointing for the girls.”
Some parents have been frustrated not only by the shortages, but by what they say is piecemeal communication from Girl Scouts USA. And after years of Covid-related disruptions, their own patience is wearing thin.

My too. They could bank on me buying girl scout cookies. Now when I see the girls and mommas selling cookies, I stop to witness to them.
It might have something to do with them being $4 a box, too. That whole supply / demand / price thing that liberals struggle so hard to understand.
It’s been about a decade since I purchased a box of girl scout cookies. I just ignore the tables set up outside grocery store entry-ways. At first, I felt a little bad for the girls, but then I looked at their mothers who voluntarily put them in an organization whose goal is to destroy these girls.
Once the girl scout organization joined with Planned Parenthood so that the members could be fully indoctrinated in the narrative that killing their babies was “reproductive freedom” the GS’s lost my support.
I have not bought them in years and never will again. I have my girls in the American Heritage Girls.
Buy 1-2 cases of the peanut butter cookies each year. They went up this year but that was expected. They extended the sales until later in April due to supply issues I was told by one of the parents.
Instead of teaching entrepreneurship and how to pretend to be a man, how about teaching the girls where the kitchen is and how to bake some cookies themselves.
I too bought GS cookies yearly. When they went leftist I ceased.
Like the Boy Scouts, it is an organization that has gotten rotten.
I said forget it!
Don’t buy crap! Boxed, overprocessed chemicals and refined sugar are basically poison. Maybe Girl Scouts could go back to baking homemade chocolate chip cookies and then they’d have something worth buying. Flour, baking powder, eggs, brown sugar, chocolate chips, maybe some walnuts... not exactly healthy, but delicious and they won’t give you cancer.
I do it every year at a local setup....”As soon as you stop promoting abortion, I’ll buy your cookies again”.
LOL. Nice flame suit you’ve got there.
Just give the girls cash directly. The cash will stay with the Troop. Which is generally run by decent moms
Cookie money mostly funded the leadership up in my which are a bunch of whackadoo leftists and dykes

Little Brownie Bakers overwhelmingly failed the Girl Scouts this year, offering the usual rainbow of Biden era excuses (weather, supply chain disruption, labor shortages). It wasn’t limited to raspberry cookies.
>> Now when I see the girls and mommas selling cookies, I stop to witness to them.
I like your technique. GS have gone over to the dark side. They need witness!
>> how about teaching the girls where the kitchen is and how to bake some cookies themselves.
LOL! You’ll appreciate this from Babylon Bee:

The Girl Scouts USA (and the YWCA) are just groomer programs for lesbians. They got wrecked when feminazi Patricia Ireland took over. Placing girls in these organizations is like putting them in a rape environment.
They were $6 per box (no Raspberry Rallies which I haven’t heard of until now) around here.
You can get every flavor of the Girl Scout cookie in the Walmart Great Value brand for under $2.00 a package!! I REFUSE to support the Girl Scouts any longer!! I was a Girl Scout back in the day, TODAY they are a leftist organization!!
