. You can see the momentum building - it’s like the drumbeat after a shooting when you hear the voices turning one-by-one to enacting new forms of gun control.

In 1935, the government passed the Social Security Act,
establishing government welfare for retirees and setting a
formal age of retirement at 65. This number is important. In
1935, the average life expectancy was on 61.7 years, but
that included a high rate of infant mortality. A little over
half of people who survived to age 21 were expected to make
it to 65, and were expected to only need social security
for about 12 years before passing away. With many Americans
working in rough conditions, few could work past 65 anyway,
so this was a good age for retirement. People at 65 needed
welfare, and since they were only supposed to live into
their 70s, it wasn’t a huge strain on the government.

This is an issue guaranteed to sink the Republican party, except for Trump who opposes reaching into the pockets of Americans.

Republicans, the Dopey Party.

My position on SS payout is that any pay raise for congress and senate should include an equal raise for SS recipients.

How about paying back all the surpluses that have been skimmed to allow Congress to hide the real amount of excess spending. Wait! It isn't all bad because Congress accounts for the skimming by putting non-negotiable bonds or other instruments of payment in a file folder somewhere.

Non-negotiable instruments are worth nothing.

“...a worker, who was FORCED to participate his/her whole life.”

And therein lies the rub! If all the dollars STOLEN from me via SS, had been in my hands, invested properly, they’d be worth much more than what I’m getting in SS.

If you can take it at 62, please do. Let’s break this stupid system that has been theft from the git-go.

Inflation is Theft! Taxation is Theft! Mother Government is a thief!

Billions for Ukraine and programs to make life easier for illegal aliens from all over the globe.

America’s sick and elderly need to get back into the workforce. “No Money For You”.

Remember when Obama told a woman that her elderly mother was too old to deserve medical care?

Well that’s now the mantra of Celebrity Media Conservatism.

Trump btw has always opposed targeting Medicare and Social Security for budget cutting.

Accusing trump of being a name caller & questioning whether trump can win the general election.

From Hannity to Levin, now Bongino - we can’t print money fast enough to send to Corrupt Hands in Ukraine, but we can’t afford that 30k SS benefit to a worker, who was forced to participate his/her whole life.

Notice only those who don't need SS are the ones talking about cutting it.

The Republicans better stay away from social security especially since we contribute so much to countries that despise us. How many folks contribute to SS for many years and pass away before any benefits. Thank goodness Trump has no desire to “reform” SS.

You sound like you're echoing the MSM and that current SS recipients are going to get cuts in their benefits.

WELL, THEY'RE NOT! Stop with yours and theirs nonsense.

Companies are of course terminating their company sponsored life time health care programs for employees following their retirement. They're also terminating the company sponsored retirement plans and instead offering generous 401K savings plans for existing and new employees.

There's no way any company can endure a lifetime of legacy benefits for current employees who may retire in the future.

I'm a fortunate recipient of those legacy costs which were promised me all the years of my employment.

Today's employees will no longer have that benefit and so it will be up to them to plan accordingly. But one thing is for certain, the government should not be responsible for their welfare following their retirement.

Social Sec. contributions should be voluntary, not mandatory. Unfortunately they are mandatory in order to supply SS benefits to those who never really earned it.

And that's a problem that needs to be addressed also......

I never paid into Social Security, since their is no trust fund.

I did pay two “Income Taxes”, one was called an “income tax”, while the other was called FICA.

So, if I do get a government stipend when I retire, it will be on the backs of my kids and grand kids.
