California Gov. Gavin Newsom is facing increased pressure to use his authority to unilaterally enact proposals that would dole out billions of dollars to Black residents in reparations as a way to make amends for slavery if the state legislature doesn't act.
The California Reparations Task Force, which was created by state legislation in 2020, is considering a proposal to give just under $360,000 per person to approximately 1.8 million Black Californians who had an ancestor enslaved in the U.S., putting the total cost of the program at about $640 billion.

The committee was created amid the unrest following the 2020 murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis. None of the panel's nine members are White.
The task force had initially proposed $220,000 per person for Black Californians last year but recently increased the figure by more than 60% to $360,000 as one of many ideas being mulled to give out reparations.

At the more local level, some California cities - such as Oakland, Los Angeles, and most notably San Francisco - have been pushing their own reparations proposals.
On Tuesday, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors expressed "unanimous" support for a draft plan of more than 100 reparations recommendations for the city, including a proposal to dole out $5 million each to qualifying Black residents. The proposal of $5 million lump-sum payments would cost non-Black families in the city at least $600,000, according to Stanford University's Hoover Institution.

The city board also expressed interest in other forms of reparations for San Francisco's roughly 50,000 Black residents, such as a guaranteed annual income of at least $97,000 for 250 years and a home in the area for just $1 a family.
Another idea under consideration is a "comprehensive debt forgiveness" program...

I was going to ask “how did they come up with $360,000,” but from my recollection, the Civil War had 620,000 deaths: 360,000 Union and 260,000 Confederate, so maybe that is it?
The Governor can unilaterally order each black to be paid so many hundred thousand? How does he have that authority? Doesn’t the money need to be appropriated?
California’s Newman, I mean Newsom comes up with an insanely expensive vote-buying scheme and all of America has to do it AND pay for it? Brilliant! Effing insane democrats looking to stuff huge kickbacks into their slush funds! STRING ‘EM UP!
The Dems got themselves mau-mau’ed by “activists” into an absurd scheme that none dare openly oppose. The first one of them to call it stupid will be destroyed by the others.
To be fair, I don’t think it was Newsoms idea. This was “grass roots” from SF.
California has always been a free state. Why do the people of california have to pay reparations? This is the dumbest thing I have heard of.
I was ‘assigned’ a Caucasian male in Canaduh, at birth but I identify as a Black, son of a slave, who resides in California. When do I get my money? Certified cheque please, and make sure it isn’t an about to collapse bank!

I think at this point everyone is looking for someone, probably a judge, to block it, so as to be able to heap imprecations on his head while breathing private sighs of relief.
They want a plausible scapegoat, a sin-eater.

My sincerest hope is that any judge it goes before passes it back to the legislature saying, “It is not the responsibility of the judicial system to govern on behalf of the legislature. It is the responsibility of the politicians to govern judiciously and the court will leave this legislation where it belongs, to the Californian government.”
Either way, whitey pays.
They’ll still have to pay billions in riots, looting and burning, because that’s how the “recipients” will “celebrate.”
Every Black person in America needs to move to California to get their free money.
