On Wednesday afternoon, a cement mixer work accident claimed the life of a man in Florida. The incident took place at Foley Products Company in Cantonment at approximately 4:30 p.m. As per Escambia County reports, the man was operating the cement mixer when it was switched on, and he got entangled inside it. Initially, the county stated that he suffered severe injuries and needed to be rescued from the machine. However, he was later pronounced dead.
According to Eric Gilmore, the Public Safety Director of Escambia County, they are awaiting the appropriate authorities to conduct their investigation. Once they complete their inquiry and relinquish control of the scene, the victim will be removed, and they will proceed accordingly. The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office’s Crime Scene Unit was present at the location for approximately one hour. The investigation is still underway.
In factories machinery like that would be under the “Lockout/Tagout” OSHA requirement. The man working on the machine would padlock the main disconnect in the OFF position. But cement mixers?
ocupado
Someone didn’t lock out the motor or PTO.
There’s a tone of common sense and OSHA violations
Not operating with safety monitor
Not disconnecting power source
Not blocking off work area
No warning signs
That can’t be a good way to go.
“Wait a minute, you say a person can make a living with this video/PornHub thing? How exactly does that happen?”
Apparently not the case, as I just watched the new Netflix movie. PornHub types are basically demonitized in most forums (poor babies).
“Someone didn’t lock out the motor or PTO.”
Ideally he would put a lock on the system preventing its activation while he’s inside. Perhaps he forgot his lock, or forgot to put it on - if so, that can be the price.
If, on the other hand, that system didn’t exist, it’s time for his family in Honduras to hire an attorney.
This is hugh and series. Let’s all observe a moment of silence for Florida Man…
Lock out, tag out.
Lockout and tagout.
Who was operating a keyboard when it was switched on, and became entangled in it?
They should make a statue of that guy.
There is nothing in the article that gives his status as either a citizen, here on a work visa or here illegally. Where did you come up with the idea he was an illegal?
There is a kill switch that can be tagged
for lockout. They are also typically
roped off with warning signs that state
“Do Not Operate”
Someone didn’t follow proper safety
procedures. There are workers that
climb inside these mixers on a
regular basis for clean-out of
concrete that has dried inside usually
just after a pour and a lengthy return
to the yard.
These safety rules are typically OSHA
driven, as this certainly isn’t the first
time this has happened. Big fines are due
the company owner if these procedures
weren’t followed.
I suspect foul play. Someone didn’t like
this guy.
Well played, sir.
That’s a hard way to go.
looks like someone wasnt familiar with the Lock Out Tag Out proceedures!! goes to show all the training in the world doesnt make things accident proof. Human error will always be there!!
