On Wednesday afternoon, a cement mixer work accident claimed the life of a man in Florida. The incident took place at Foley Products Company in Cantonment at approximately 4:30 p.m. As per Escambia County reports, the man was operating the cement mixer when it was switched on, and he got entangled inside it. Initially, the county stated that he suffered severe injuries and needed to be rescued from the machine. However, he was later pronounced dead.
According to Eric Gilmore, the Public Safety Director of Escambia County, they are awaiting the appropriate authorities to conduct their investigation. Once they complete their inquiry and relinquish control of the scene, the victim will be removed, and they will proceed accordingly. The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office’s Crime Scene Unit was present at the location for approximately one hour. The investigation is still underway.
Just awful, poor man!
Who switched it on, and why?
One of my first jobs out of High School was working on heavy construction equipment. It’s very dangerous work if you’re not careful.
Probably someone who doesn’t “habla inglés”.
Even though he was here illegally, it DOES NOT mean he deserved that death. For starters, he was doing HONEST work, that no American will do anymore (too busy with video games and PornHub). So, if you want to blame anyone, blame THE SYSTEM that allows, encourages, young American men to go the Video/PornHub route, rather than doing REAL WORK for a living.
Do they have concrete evidence that it was an accident?
True that. Currently, I’m doing people’s tax returns for a well-known firm as a form of actual work until my security clearance finally passes for my next job. It is real work. For some reason, the work triggers every anxiety in me known to man, but I go anyway. Why? Because I don’t want to be a p*ssy. That’s why.
I saw what you did there.
Poor guy.
In industrial plants, chemical plants, power plants, refineries, etc, you have lock-outs so the power cannot be turned on when you are inside the equipment. You can put your own personal lock on the breakers to prevent somebody making a mistake like this. I doubt cement trucks have that safety precaution. It would have saved this guys life.
Wait a minute, you say a person can make a living with this video/PornHub thing? How exactly does that happen?
jk
I learned about locking out machines so things like that wouldn’t happen.
I blame a lack of communication as to proper safety protocols.
Lock out/tag out (LOTO) exists for a reason, as do confined space rules.
Lock out-Tag out rules were not observed.
Bad way to go.
Why can’t DeSantis remedy the Florida Man situation?
He has cured everything else.😉
Last year in Apopka Florida there was a young firefighter killed during some routine procedure (Oh Yah!) to move some piece of equipment. The ass-covering that happened during that investigation was truly disgusting.
Sort of like Uvalde, I guess. Well, not quite that level of incompetence.
When one is anywhere near heavy equipment an understanding of physics in addition to safety measures is extremely important.
I applaud you for confronting your fears and annoyances.
Yes - he got caught in a mix-up.
