Surely to the chagrin of anti-vitamin D “brought to you by Pfizer” jihadists like CNN, more evidence mounts that increasing your vitamin D levels might be the single most effective strategy for longevity and quality of life.
Via research published by the Alzheimer’s Association:
In this longitudinal study of dementia-free NACC participants, exposure to vitamin D was associated with higher dementia-free survival and lower dementia incidence rates over 10 years. These findings were consistent across each vitamin D formulation: calcium–vitamin D, cholecalciferol, and ergocalciferol. Interaction analyses revealed that while exposure to vitamin D was associated with lower dementia incidence across all strata of sex, cognitive diagnosis, and APOE ε4 status, the rates were lower in females versus males, NC versus MCI, and APOE ε4 non-carriers versus carriers…
Vitamin D exposure was associated with 40% lower dementia incidence versus no exposure.
The large-scale study (with over 12,000 participants) spanned ten years — so there’s lots of data over a lengthy time frame that the corporate media is going to have a hard time refuting. In the conclusion, the researchers implored the scientific community to build upon their findings in future research, with more specific analysis of the intriguing differences in the dementia-fighting benefits of vitamin D by sex (women experienced a greater benefit than men).
Given these impressive results — along with numerous other proven benefits of vitamin D supplementation such as stronger bones, enhanced immunity (including against COVID-19), and more — one must wonder what leads the New York Times to declare that “there’s really not much data at all to support the use of most supplements to prevent illness or to boost your immunity.”

Vitamin d increases iron absorption.
I thought it was hard to have an iron deficiency. I donate blood every two years to prevent excess iron.
I did, but ran out 2 weeks ago, forgot to re-order from Amazon, and will check Rite Aid when I go to p/u some Rxs, tomorrow. Otherwise, I can get it from Amazon.
I believe you take 100 micrograms. 100 milligrams is a thousand times that.

Can’t find any numbers on dosage. every time I get my blood checked the VitD concentration is reported. There is a range. A few years ago my doc told me to take a pill to knock it back into the high end of “normal”. Is that sufficient?

I believe many people who take vitamin d take too much and that the optimum blood level is 32 ng/ml. There are more kidney stones among people who have a level of 50 ng/ml. Excess vitamin d reduces vitamins k, c, gamma tocopherol and other vitamins.
At least 5000 IU a day should be sufficient.

Generally, it’s not recommended to exceed the upper limit of safe intake, which is 4,000 IU (100 mcg) per day.

I think that the optimum vitamin d blood level is 32 ng/ml. There are more kidney stones among people who have a level of 50 ng/ml. People who take 100 micrograms per day have a blood level of 67 ng/ml.

RESULTS
The 2 groups were essentially indistinguishable after 1 y of vitamin D3 supplementation (67.7 compared with 67.3 ng/mL in African Americans and whites).
I take 15000 every other day. Just had it checked, it was 67.5. The doctor said that’s good.
Three years ago I was taking 10000 a day, the reading was 94. The PA said that’s too high and told me to cut back.
I also take “Koncentrated K” every other day.
Yes! I actually was prescribed Celebrex for my knee replacement. It works great when my back is really hurting but I noticed an increase in eye migraines, My Opthamologist said to take one baby aspirin every two days. I only take Celebrex as needed.. When I got the shingles vaccine years ago as part of a clinical study, soon after I developed allergies to all of my blood pressure meds and the statin I had been taking for years. I am on all different drugs now for that (all of which cause drowsiness) and my BP is good.
Pointless. Excess vitamin d reduces vitamin k. It’s good that you take so much vitamin k because it protects you, in my opinion, from your excessive vitamin d intake. Your body uses the extra vitamin k you take to deactivate the extra vitamin d.
If you have a lot of energy, I suggest an exercise. Try to find one study where people who had a vitamin d level of 32 ng/ml increased their vitamin d levels with a supplement and received a benefit. I have not seen evidence that if someone has a vitamin d level of 32 ng/ml, incŕeasing it produces a benefit.
