While I should be grateful that Substack allows one to read so many articles for free, so long as the authors don’t limit views to subscribers, I actually wish they wouldn’t. I wish they were one of those sites that limited you to, say, ten free views. There is too much good stuff and I would love to reward authors. However, I don’t want to subscribe to each author I like for 7 bucks a month when some only write five articles a month or write only five good articles a month. I’d gladly sign up as a global subscribe for, say 25 bucks a month, and have say, a quarter go to each author for each article I view, with 10% of that going to Substack for overhead. It would also be great if a tip jar went with the 25 bucks a month in case an article was so great I wanted to give an extra 25 cents to the author. It would be further great if I could pad my monthly account beyond the 25 bucks in case there was a month full of really great stuff and I felt more tipping was in order. Rant off.)
