The pilot of easyJet flight U21806 delighted passengers returning to England

Travellers snapped fantastic images of the phenomenon through plane windows

An easyJet flight made a 360-degree turn to allow its passengers to watch an 'amazing display' of the northern lights as it flew over the northern tip of the UK.

On Monday evening, passengers on flight U21806 from Reykjavik in Iceland to Manchester Airport were able to take pictures of the celestial spectacle after the pilot decided to perform the circular turn.

The controlled detour to the west of the Faroe Islands took just less than 10 minutes and occurred shortly after 8.30pm, while the Airbus A320 was flying at an altitude of 37,000ft (11,000m) and at a little under 500mph, according to flight tracking website Flightradar24.com.

One lucky couple, who had just got engaged in Iceland but were unable to witness the northern lights on the ground, snapped an incredible picture of the phenomenon from their plane window.

As for EWR, apparently there is a VFR departure which involves flying up the East River at a very low altitude.

How low?....................

As a kid in northern Michigan, we used to see the northern lights quite frequently. We’d lay out on the ground and watch the show. There was virtually no light pollution where we were and it really was breathtaking...

My very first flight into Iraq, we were blacked out at 26000’ over desolate desert at 3am and I kept seeing flashes of light reflecting off the plane, for about ten minutes all I could figure is that we were taking some sort of Anti Aircraft fire. Turned out it was one of those annual meteor showers.

At least 50’ higher. I forget what VFR minimums are!

I asked a pilot acquaintance about it, and he said it is sometimes done if the flight is ahead of schedule for its destination.

I think the pilot just wanted to give someone an extra dose of them chemtrails.

Had a commercial airline pilot bank and do a 360 over the Grand Canyon so everyone on the plane could get a cool view!

Worth the cost of admission

Many flights leaving Kabul do a corkscrew because of the mountains all around.

I can always spot the navy pilots.
Full throttle on takeoff with high climb
Rapid deceleration on landing without floating the runway.

Upon disembarking, when the pilots stand at the flight deck door, I usually smirk with the question; “Navy?” Invariably, a quick smirk back; “yep”.

Followed by a good and knowing; “thank you” from me.

I can still tell if it’s an ex navy or an ex air force pilot landing. Navy pilots drop down on the end of the runway and stand on the brakes. air force pilots fly down the runway until they get to the turn off.
