TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A study on auto insurance rates across the country found that in Florida, women pay an average more than $300 higher than men. The study, by QuoteWizard, said it was the second largest gender gap in the country, when it came to auto insurance rates.
Generally, the study said men tend to pay slightly less no matter where. However, sometimes it’s a matter of age. Teenage male drivers pay more than their female counterparts, but overall men pay less.
“On average, we found that men pay $720 per year for auto insurance, while women pay $739 per year,” QuoteWizard reported.
Still, QuoteWizard also reported that women have safer driving records than men, but their rates are higher than average by age 35.
Separately, QuoteWizard reported that while women tend to pay more, their premiums increase by smaller amounts than men after an auto accident, speeding ticket, or DUI.
“Women may also pay significantly more than men depending on where they live,” QuoteWizard reported. “Our analysts found 31 states where women pay more than men, 15 where men pay more than women and four where men and women pay the same amount.”
Florida is already a more expensive state to drive in, with the second most expensive insurance costs in the country, according to a separate study by ValuePenguin. QuoteWizard’s analysis just puts the numbers between men and women into a range, at least for 30-year-old drivers.
Per year in Florida, women pay $307 more for their insurance in a year than men. While a man will pay $3,236 per year on auto insurance on average, women will pay $3,543, according to QuoteWizard.
I got involved in an accident last year. I was waiting at a stop light behind some other cars when this woman pulled out from a side street not looking at me, but looking at the cars behind me and she kept going going going, oh no, stop stop, I blow the horn, she keeps going and crunch right into my passenger door pushing it it. I told her “YES! That’s how we drive! Never looking in front, but to the side” Then she wanted to pay me $50 to not report it to insurance. Yeah that’s it, my door squashed in will only cost $50 to fix.
Oh, the irony. In the old days, when insurance companies were permitted to use any risk criteria for payments, women paid substantially less for car insurance than men. Especially teenagers - teenage girls paid a lot less than teenage boys. But then the government “solved” that “discrimination” and insurance costs for teenage girls shot up.
How much more per year do men pay for life insurance, as compared to women?
And the problem with that is?
What about for married couples? Do these rates apply only to unmarried people of either sex?
Just saying, when I was married, my wife and I got insurance quotes and bills for both of us together. Then , as our children came of age they were added to the policy.
Just saying, I didn’t know precisely how the premiums were calculated. Never recall a bill indicating which portion of the premium was for me ,,which for my wife, and which for children as they came of age.
Men take bigger risks when young, then it flips.
Women are more likely to be distracted and have higher incidences of property-related damage claims.
Property claims — as opposed to claims with personal injury — do not factor into “safety”, but do factor into expense of insurance.
The article is intentionally not comparing apples-to-apples to fit the agenda that women are oppressed.
When agents see the upside down BLOND license plate may have something to do with it.
Rates are higher because women always try to explain that it wasn’t their fault.
I mean I don’t know call me a wizard but women have more accidents per miles driven so their insurance is higher kind of like kids under 25 especially boys who turn to drive risky
I drive 200 miles a day usually and I can tell you black drivers especially young black males are the craziest drivers so I’m assuming their insurance rates reflect that
As it should be.
Extra for their backseat driving.
Women have higher medical bills. They may be worse drivers.
Deal with it. Men die sooner.
Maybe it’s because women are concentrating on their cell phones instead of driving. I see countless women and girls behind the wheel who are fixated on their cell phones when they should be paying attention to driving.
I remember in my late teens early 20’s I was paying $1500 and the woman my age were around $600. Don’t remember anybody caring about the men.
I have 2 daughters and I can tell you they were not better drivers when they were young-— they just receive warnings instead of tickets. My oldest has received over 10 warnings and no tickets. I’ve been pulled over 4 times my whole life and 3 tickets.
