Biggest ‘gator I saw in the Everglades was sunning itself on the road. It launched itself into the shallow water and eerily disappeared. It had learned fear, for whatever reason.

It’s not just alligators, either. It’s pretty much any wild animal that wanders by looking for food, AND in my experience it is usually an elderly or retired person doing the feeding.
My parents retired to Arizona, purchased a nice big place on the Colorado River with a considerable amount of high end landscaping. In their boredom, they began to feed a couple of roadrunners that came by every morning and evening like clockwork for food. After about 6 months of this, my parents took a week long trip to Hawaii, only to return to the total destruction of the landscaping in the front and back yards.
According to their neighbors, appears the roadrunners have a meltdown after a few days of no free hamburger meat and proceeded to destroy / tear up every plant available. They then went after the neighbor’s yard when they were finished with my parents. One of the neighbors finally killed both birds with his shotgun.
Wild animals are wild for a reason. They are unpredictable. But, dumb people who ascribe human tendencies to animals are at fault.
The time to move the gator was years ago. Take up a collection of the stupid people. If there’s not enough collected to pay for relocation, shoot it.
Animals have no intrinsic value. Humans do. You need to examine your premises about that.
I keep hearing people say don’t come to Florida, they have big bugs, nasty mosquitos, snakes and the alligators will eat you....

Every new housing development has a lake here these days. So much building! So many people coming here. Not good. Expensive, exploding housing.

Unfortunately, this happens sometimes. Alligators often go for dogs. Do not walk your dog by a body of water in Florida unless you are SURE there are no gator present.
The 2nd piece of advice is, you are not going to win a wrestling match with a gator that size. Carry a gun. If necessary, use it.
