My vet didn't seem overly worried about it when I asked but I went ahead with getting my dog the flu shot.

There isn’t anything I need to know about dog flu.

Thanks for the information. We’d probably go for the flu shot, too.

Shaking my head. You dog people are nuts. Haven’t you learned anything from the last 2 years?

There is no reliable test for the “Canine Flu” that can be obtained quickly; one has to take a swab and submit it to a competent lab and the sample has to be handled appropriately. When it was first identified a vet in my area coaxed the gullibles into believing the quick flu test for humans was also a credible test for dogs...he treated a great many dogs with expensive Tamiflu and sold a boat load of vaccine. He claimed it was killing the dogs at the humane society but I confirmed it to be Canine Distemper virus which mimics every disease known to man. I was skeptical of the test and vaccine and didn't push it. History has found me to be correct but the adverse publicity towards me by those criticizing my caution and skepticism still cost.

A sewing friend of my wife’s lost her two-year old Sheltie to it last week. Dog started coughing on the way home from doggie daycare. By the time she realized how bad it was all the vets were closed and the local university’s animal hospital was closed until 7 AM due to a staff shortage. The dog died at 6 AM. She is devastated.

Here’s What You Need To Know

Is anyone else sick of that phrase?

I take it to mean "Here's what you need to think".
