A sewing friend of my wife’s lost her two-year old Sheltie to it last week. Dog started coughing on the way home from doggie daycare. By the time she realized how bad it was all the vets were closed and the local university’s animal hospital was closed until 7 AM due to a staff shortage. The dog died at 6 AM. She is devastated.
I would have been devastated, too, so sorry to hear this.
Without PCR technology and the testing done at only Cornell University, I’m skeptical of any clinical diagnosis. Unfortunately the nasal swab has to be shipped to Cornell for a positive diagnosis and that may take over a week to ten days to get results. There are many vets making diagnoses by pulling them out of their butt. There are far more dangerous contagious diseases in dogs.
