Who do these skeptic conservatives think they are to question Daddy EPA?
Memes, or cartoons in a digital format, stand alone as a medium of communication. In one image, one can clearly convey multi-faceted, or broad concepts to the viewer:
For writer Christine Haus at The New York Times though, memes like the one above are nothing more than slimy attempts by Republicans to “sow distrust” in big government. Yesterday, the outlet published Haus’s essay on the current environmental crisis in Ohio — yeah, you know, the one where government officials purposefully ignited some of the most carcinogenic materials known to man, and consequently the cloud layer looked like this:
Haus wrote:
Right-wing commentators have been particularly critical, using the crisis to sow distrust in government agencies.

“ Yeah, eventually the truth won out against the Nazis, too bad, six million had to die before it came out.”
______________
That number is 11 million, the 6 million were the Jews, the remaining comprised Christians, political enemies, homosexuals, etc.
What’s even worse is the world turned a blind eye to China when she killed 70 million people in Mao’s Great Leap Forward. Mao, the atheist communist
celebrated by the Bush and Obama administrations and now the people supporting the war in Ukraine, as they claim China serves as a good example for future world order.
That number is 11 million....
The point was still made.
It’s because the sons and daughters of the fringe radicals in the 60s are now running the government. They took over.
It’s like trying to explain the transformation of Biden from a (somewhat) normal white guy into a rabid leader of a freak show.
In the end, it always comes down to Money and Power.
We can and should talk about it, and the government’s inadequate response. But we don’t need to be saying things like “American Chernobyl”, or “Bhopal”, or “Vinyl Chloride is the most toxic chemical on earth”. None of those are remotely true and it unnecessarily scares the crap out of people who don’t understand chemicals and the relative risk.
Not designating this as an “emergency”, requiring Federal assistance was beyond stupid and shows an utter lack of understanding. Either that, or a complete disdain for the people of Ohio.
There are things the government needs to do to aid and complete cleanup and to restore confidence. But, people are going to be just fine.
“The point was still made.“
Well, 54% of it was. 🙂
Too late for “mistrust of big government” that happened long ago. It was strongly reinforced during COVID.
What happened to the hippy generation that was down with the establishment? Oh, yeah...they BECAME the establishment.
Havent they seen the polls…. Govt is just above the media in trustworthiness…. And thats not really something to brag about😂
So to the savants at the NYT, if it happens in a Blue Zone - Flint, Michigan, anyone? - it’s a scandal, but not in a place that didn’t vote 90% for Biden. Trust the government. Trust the media.
Gov: EVs will save the earth.
Gov: Forever chems spill in a rep stronghold “WHATS THE PROBLEM, WE SEE NO PROBLEM”.
Do dems live downstream? It’s that’s why all of a sudden today!?!?
As for the liberal media decrying conservative mistrust of the "experts", let us not forget that when Hurricane Katrina hit liberal New Orleans during the Administration of the younger Bush, the same media was highly critical of the government authorities.
If liberals did not have double standards, they would have no standards at all.
“The issue is never the issue, the issue is always the revolution.”
“Never let a crisis go to waste.”
In a sane world and a just society, there would be a numerous collection of players already in jail, with some already having been executed, going as high up the ladder as possible. It will not happen, because the revolution would not benefit. Instead, those who made this happen will skate, while the deregulating pen of Donald Trump will be made to carry all the guilt.
I remember when (some of) the media looked out for the people, not the government…
There are a couple liberal trolls that comment at AT that expose the insane workings of a Biden and democrat party supporter. They are delusional and stupid people.
It's blatantly false statements like this that lend credence to the NYT piece. Cut it out. It makes the adults in the room look bad.
(Water in the East Palestine municipal system comes from a well field that has no contamination, and is just as safe now as it was a month ago. Systems downstream along the Ohio River which draw up river water are closing their Ohio intakes and using alternate sources while the plume passes. At the low levels found in the river, the water could be treated or filtered to remove the chemicals, but if they can use other sources, why bother? These water system managers aren't stupid, nor are they unprepared.)
Unfairly sow distrust of government?
No, fairly sow distrust of government
i have not trusted the federal government since that time in Waco, TX, where the federal government offered up the lives of all the children of the Branch Davidians in that fire.
And this happened, during the Clinton Administration’s celebration of “The Year of The Child”.
.
Big govt sows distrust of big govt. Big government thinks America belongs to it and will lie thru it’s teeth to serv itself at the drop of a hat.
Ummmm...Houston, we have a problem.
The distrust started when 'big government' told me it was raining.
When I did look outside, just to check and see, not that I didn't trust 'big government', it wasn't raining.
Nor was it the next time and the time after that and the time after that and so forth and so on.
Do you see the problem, Olivia? 'Big government' and by extension, you, are telling me it's raining outside.
