Alpha Centauri.

The factions and the lore were great.

I’m a Battlefield 1942 / Vietnam and vintage MS combat flight simulator player.

Why hasn’t it held up?

This is a really stupid article.

It’s like saying Day of the Dead has aged poorly because zombie movies are “more intense” today?!

These are hallmarks showing the journey and growth of the artistic medium of gaming.

As far as PC games go, “Heroes of Might And Magic III” still is a masterpiece in RPG style gaming.

Deus Ex is still a great game, one of my favorites of all time.

It has a great storyline, with a lot of conspiracy predictions. More than a few of those predictions are coming close to real events happening today: the release of a pandemic virus exploited to increase govt power, the labeling of people wanting freedom from tyranny as “terrorists”, the rise of the Deep State, etc. It is almost uncanny.

Deus Ex is available on Steam, and I recommend it. There is a good review at

What is this crap fest? Screw this author. His arguments boil down to old games not being understood by new players spoiled on the latest graphics. He does have a point that today’s privileged morons have no patience for anything older than 4 minutes, (and know nothing more than 5 minutes old) but that doesn’t make it right.

Nonsense. We're now *living* the backstory of this game...

I still play Might & Magic 6, 7 & 8 on PC - vintage late 90’s - especially since some smart guy mashed them together into a single game you can play through with the same characters. It’s like my “comfort game” that I return to again and again, even though I’ve beaten it many times.

I still have the old Atari games modded for PC, and all of the original NES game ROMs that I play using an emulator. I guess I prefer simplicity of play to fancy graphics and complicated interfaces. Hey - it’s my time to waste, after all.
