You can apply that thought across the board, don’t dress like , work like, behave like whitey.

Any punk can get a digital scale, these days. A bill weighs a gram, a nickel weighs five grams. A post-1982 penny weighs 2.5 grams. Tare the scale, and go to work. Anyone challenges the weight, demonstrate with coins. A nickel and a penny is a quarter ounce....a penny and a bill is close to an eighth ounce.

“In fact, after analyzing the results, the Baltimore news station found 23 city schools where not a single student tested proficient in math.”

This is not important.

The important thing: in Baltimore all the Confederate monuments have either been smashed or eaten.

“When are the voters who pay for these useless schools going to wake up?”

**********

Obviously a rhetorical question. Most of those voters can’t add either.

My favorite cashier story was in the NY Times years ago. A man bought some things at the store and the cashier told him the total was ten sixty-six. He responded “Ah, the Battle of Hastings.” She looked at him funny and said, “What?” He explained. She was quiet for a while and then said, “Can you do that with any number?”

Now that’s a typical blue eye answer. You don’t like the weight? My AK says it right on.

The Best is the enemy of the Good.

A math curriculum designed for an average IQ of 85 could succeed.

A math curriculum designed to elevate pupils with an IQ of 100 to 105-110 performance (what we have now), when applied to students with IQs in the 75-90 range, produces disaster.

Actually, statistically, this has to be off.
How could, NOT 1 kid be proficient?

Cops drove through that particular park in that white-bread town fairly regularly. I did see an AR, once, and heard about a bunch of white bois with AKs jumping out of the bed of a pickup (hunting a guy that screwed them on auto parts) . Urban settings are sure to be different. A dealer that regularly shorts customers might find himself on the wrong side of a drive-by, though.

What does “proficient” mean in this context?

I gave a $50 bill for payment at a drive-thru restaurant.
The kid started waving it around and shouting..I got a 50! 50 bucks look at me woo hooo!!! Dancing and twirling around. I was nauseated. Should have just drove off. He had to call his supervisor to make the change.
And this was close to 10 years ago...

When will we demand change? Education is the key to success. We’re failing these kids.

Prior to teachers unions the USA was #1 in K12 education now with teachers unions we are in the bottom third among 1st world countries.

All because JFK abolished the law that made it illegal for public sector employees to unionize. Restore that law and end teachers unions.

See- why would the bois in the hood need math? Wasted education time - they could be learning how to get more hos turning more tricks.

It’s easy to teach a cashier how to count out the correct change. Says the sales is $3.73 and the customer hands over a $20.00 ->

put the $20 on top of the register -> say 3.73
take out 2 cents ->say 3 75
take out a quarter -> say 4
take out a dollar -> say 5
take out a 5 -> say 10
take out a ten -> say 20
and then hand all that to the customer.
Easy Peases.

Most people don’t need more than basic arithmetic to get through the day. Or their lives.

Seriously, how proficient in algebra, geometry etc. do you need to be

If you can't do A2 + B2 = C2 you are not a functional human being. I tried to teach that to a couple of carpenters! I gave up and I am a pretty good teacher. LOL.
