State Rep. Mary E. Flowers (D-Chicago) has sponsored a change to provide for a right for “culturally sensitive” caregivers in a medical setting.
The bill under consideration is HB1021.
“Amends the Medical Patient Rights Act. Provides that each patient has the right to receive care from a medical professional who is culturally sensitive to the patient's life experience,” the bill’s synopsis reads.
The bill would amend the Medical Patient Rights Act. The full text of the bill elaborates.
“The right of each patient to receive care from a medical professional who is culturally sensitive to the patient's life experience,” the bill reads.
The amendment is the last part of the bill. It is unclear how success of such an amendment would be measured.
Flowers, 71, is the longest-serving Black legislator in the state’s history. She currently serves in House leadership as deputy majority leader.
“I hope my legacy will be that people will remember me for trying to help someone along the way,” she told Capital News Illinois. “I would like for people to know that I gave it my best.”
Flowers as of late has been enmeshed in race-based legislation. She has also put forth legislation this year mandating a 40-book reading list for all Illinois public school students. That legislation is an old draft that the previous General Assembly failed to enact.
Critics say that the bill's excessive reading requirements would be problematic because they would supplant other nonbiased reading that is already incorporated in lesson plans.

Yep- try asking a non-American customer service rep for an English speaking American. Ohhhh....they get mad....
She is half Persian, who consider themselves Aryans.
I would like to be seen by a doctor who’s first language is English.
“culturally sensitive” caregivers only pick your pockets when your sedated and sound asleep.
When I visited my uncle in the hospital when I was a kid I thought he was losing it when I saw he had his money pined to his pj’s
Let those who make these demands be the last to be looked at and treated.
I need one with white culture. No foreigners either. I also want a pony who has been to med school.
“safe and effective”...

Well, since I’m highly competent in my own field, I demand only highly competent medical professionals to treat me.
seems like nothing in the patient bill of rights requires the provision of physicians that are capable, knowledgeable, skilled and experienced when DEMANDED ... oh well, as well as long the putative doc is “culturally sensitive”, i guess that’s good enough ...
I just need a doc who’s not a fragile arrogant millennial with Aspergers.
I really don’t think it’s because he’s a millennial….I think….I really don’t know.
All you millennials, please don’t get mad at me.
Serious, mine act’s like Dr. House.
Reason and logic is out the door, we are slaves to emotion, monetary profit, easy living, vanity, and pride which won't last. God warned us, City-States and multiple Empires eroded due to this but humans never learn.
I rest my case in the fact that a legislator elected by the people promotes taking a popular ideal, “Civil Rights” Act, to its logical conclusion. This has nothing to do with health care but everything to do where we are as a society. “Feelings”, here-and-the-now, as well as pride or bust.
You try to find a Straight White Male doctor. . .in the medical world straight White males are rare and most doctors are from India or Pakistan and demonstrate zero knowledge or insight about being a good doctor in the States. They have third-world biases and arrogance befitting a third-world doctor.
Had couple third-world doctors yelling in my room as they disagreed over my treatment. The loudest doctor won. . .one doctor was a pakistani muslim and the other was from India and hindu. . .and pakistan and India are foes.
Had an India doctor send a text to my nurse and telling her to start giving me insulin shots! I am not diabetic or close to it. I asked the nurse to contact the doctor that sent that order and that doctor ignored all attempts to contact her.
I refused the shot. . .if a doctor prescribes a prescription medicine then that doctor must tell you what the medicine is and what its for (you have a right to refuse).
The next morning the India doctor came in my room and before anything was said I told her she was fired and get the heck out of my room. She tried to argue with me and actually told me that she is a doctor and I am patient and have no right to challenge her decisions.
I now search for White males for my medical care. Always flawless and attentive and empathetic. Third-world doctors not even close. So, if foreigners want third-world culturally sensitive doctors, let them have it. I want my doctor to be American and culturally sensitive to American culture.
/Rant off. . . .
Well, place your order under the new ‘culturally sensitive’ protocol.
A wyte Christian doctor born in the USA who went to an American medical school? Bring it!
What happens if you ask for a white, Christian male doctor?
