Vaughan's album "Couldn't Stand the Weather" was released on May 15, 1984, and includes his cover of Jimi Hendrix's song, "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)", which provoked inevitable comparisons to Jimi Hendrix.
Better technically than Jimi, but less creative.
Thank you.
You haven’t heard enough Jimi.
I really miss him. I hear Scuttle Butt and I want to grab a strat off the wall and head for DFW. I don’t play much anymore. Got the arthritis..my hands are messed up. I do have a collection though...

We’ll just amicably disagree about the two best guys ever.
I’d put Terry Kath and Rory Gallagher up there as well.
My wife and I went to see SRV and Joe Cocker at a show in May of 1990. He played half of his songs with his guitar behind his back. Awesome show.
Damn! I talked to him on Rockline also. Sure wish I could find that episode on Youtube. I think it was 1986 for Live Alive. That is really cool. He was nice to me also.
Check out HearMy Train A Comin’ from Woodstock, or Machine Gun from Fillmore East.
Also, give a listen to a lot of his lesser known material (Rainbow Bridge, War Heroes, Cry of Love, etc.).
What I was trying to say (perhaps inartfully) is Jimi’s genius is in his vast amount of recorded material. I bet you’ll be surprised, FRiend.
I also got to see SRV in DC back in the day.
You want to know the best of the best? Check out Danny Gatton. He taught Bonamassa.

Yeah, Live Alive. I talked to him about his voice. I got an autographed Lp. I think my mom sold it when I was at school. It disappeared.
I asked him about why the album cover didn’t have a picture of him playing “Number 1” though I just said it was his main guitar. He said “cuz that’s the one I was playin’ when they took the picture” and laughed. My friend Jimmy told me he would buy me a case of beer if I mentioned his name. I did and he was a man of his word. I said “me and my buddy Jim are your biggest fans at the University of Nebraska” and that got me a case of Budweiser. Those were awesome times. I never got an autographed album though. My friend who worked doing sound for an entertainment show worked a segment where he was interviewed and got me an autograph. Personalized to me and everything. He had never asked for an autograph from anyone before but got one for me because he knew how much of a fan of SRV I am. That is a treasured possession.
Cool story!
Saw him the next year at the Orpheum downtown Minneapolis, then the following 2 years at riverfest on Harriet Island.
The day after SRV died I saw Bonnie Raite and Jeff Healy play at the Minnesota State Fair. Bonnie had been with Stevie that night at Alpine Valley and she was still in shock and played some of the most soulful blues ever.
Jeff Healy too. Played Voodoo Chile in Stevie's honor.
Very sad blues that night.
Gone too young... SRV was amazing.
Someone once told me he uses a silver dollar to pick his guitar. Is that true? Something about the strings being super tight. I don’t know much about music but that was some interesting trivia.
My all time #1 favorite guitarist. Riviera Paradise. Sigh...
It’s a secret.
I like the sound of vinyl, but I don’t have a record player.
I like digital music because I like to hear a wide varuety of songs from many artists and I don’t want to listen to a whole record at once. My collection has 44,986 songs.
