The left-wing outrage mob that’s moved America’s Overton window further to the left than it’s been at any point in history has forced yet another NCAA football program to pull a scholarship offer from one of the best high school quarterbacks in the country after he sang along with rap lyrics in a social media video.
Late last year, Marcus Stokes, the 24th-ranked high school quarterback in the country, was committed to playing college football at the University of Florida before his scholarship offer was revoked in the wake of a manufactured social media scandal. This was after Stokes sang along with rap lyrics in a now-deleted 2-second video, quoting the phrase “welcome back, n—-.”
As National File reported at the time:
Stokes later issued an apology after the clip caused outrage. “I was in my car listening to rap music, rapping along to the words and posted video of it to social media,” Stokes wrote in a statement. “I deeply apologize for the words in the song which I chose to say.”
Though he had numerous outstanding offers from other Division 1 programs, those were revoked as well, and Stokes found himself without a college football destination, despite his status as one of the country’s top quarterback recruits.
Notably, Tim Tebow quarterbacked the Nease High School football team, where Stokes currently plays, earning All-American honors in his 2005-2006 senior season.
On January 24th of this year, Stokes announced that he’d received an offer to play ball at Albany State University, a historically black school (HBCU), located in Albany, Georgia. Within a week, that offer was revoked too, and now Albany State’s head football coach, Quinn Gray, is groveling to the outrage mob and issuing a public apology for offering Stokes a spot on the team, to begin with.
“Let me start with a humble apology,” Gray wrote. “An apology for not honoring the tradition and history of ASU and for letting many of you down,” adding that his “decision to speak with a student that did not meet your expectations was unacceptable.”
After repeatedly apologizing for the “impact” his offer to Stokes apparently had on the school, Gray wrote that Albany State’s “president has made it clear that my actions did not meet [the school’s] standards.”
“My action caused you to question my commitment to our institute and our ancestors. As the consequences go, I hope to find a way back into the ‘Ramily,'” Gray wrote in conclusion.
“Without a doubt, I will be all in. Go Rams.”
The left aren’t fighting the right with guns and knives, thye are fighting us with lawfare and cancelations. They are cowards who can’t stand the fact that others are allowed opinions and positions contrary to their own.
If singing along to the words of a Published song are a big No No, shouldn’t the Publisher of said song be in prison at least?
(No reference to "music" or "singing" is intentional)
What if he identifies as black?
WHITE People need to TOTALLY abandon all RAP Music.
Don’t BUY it.
Don’t View it.
Don’t Download it.
Don’t utter a word of it.
RAP ruins lives. OBVIOUSLY.
These are high school kids.
They don’t have developed brains, at least that’s what the college and NFL would have you believe, because they can’t be ‘paid’ until they reach at least 21.
Less than 18 years of age they aren’t even faced with standard criminal charges......See 17 year old in the rape case at LSU last week.
It’s two faced to say they don’t have developed brains at 17-18, then deny them a future to redeem themselves.
This happened to Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, who while in Junior College (believe he was 18 at the time) was in a chat in which his friends were sending back-and-forth parts of rap “songs.”
It came out after he was drafted #7 overall. Apologies were made, and that was it.
It just shows what gutter culture rap represents.
“Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views.”
― William F. Buckley
Gee, so there are songs only certain race’s can sing? No problem with radio stations airing the song, no problem for advertisers supporting that radio station, no problem music producers recording and distributing that song. But some high school white guy singing along with a song on the radio in his car is RACIST!
For real?
Sheesh.
Bunch of snowflake morons.
I'd yank his scholarship too. He needs White cultural retraining.
Sorry this happened; but young whites need to abandon any advancement path that, like sports, is top-to-bottom controlled by the woke. In the long run, they’ll be better off.
No appropriating the skills of an AA ‘wrapper’ allowed there youngster. Perhaps if you start self ID’ing as an AA, things will all right.
A better response:
IT WAS A RAP SONG I WAS SINGING TO. Isn’t it racist to tell me I can’t sing it just because I’m white? I’m not apologizing for anything because I’ve done nothing wrong.
When you give an apology, you’re admitting guilt. It does nothing but provide the exact ammunition the left is looking for. It’s a “see, he agrees we’re right, PUNISH HIM!”. Just don’t.
Correct. And how far we’ve come-— When Some Girls was released by The Rolling Stones, Jesse Jackson weighed in on the lyrics of song of the same name, and its reference to the more randy appetites of ‘black girls’. Jagger’s response: “F____ him if he can’t take a joke.” Indeed.
Being on social media is dangerous territory for anyone who can have something taken away because of it. His parents should have been warning him.
White people will never be able to appease the diversity mob no matter what they do. Despite morons claiming that “diversity is our strength”, it turns out that - surprise! Diversity is a battering ram used by communists to destroy Western Civilization.
This will go on until white liberals understand that a great many black people hate them just for existing, and you can’t sing along, and you can’t appease them once they’ve focused their hatred on you. They don’t want to co-exist, they want to dominate and destroy.
I just HATE when OUR GUYS do this sort of misreporting. The notion that you can just end someone’s career for saying something politically incorrect is bad enough; our guys don’t need to use misleading clickbait to make it seem worse.
Stokes didn’t post a clip of himself singing along to a song. He posted a clip of himself saying one single, three-word sentence, calling someone a n****r (”Welcome back, “n****r”). But it’s hardly shocking that the NCAA would respond so heavy-handedly. The clickbait designers want you to say, “FOR SINGING A SONG???,” not “Well, that was pretty damned stupid of him.”
