A man has been crushed to death by a hydraulic urinal while working on the device in London's West End this afternoon.

Emergency services tried to save the man, who has not been named, but he died at the scene at Cambridge Circus on the junction between Shaftesbury Avenue and Charing Cross Road - outside the Palace Theatre, where the Harry Potter play is being shown.

The victim was performing maintenance on the pop-up urinal which rises from the pavement for those out in London at night.

The theatre is uncertain whether tonight's performance of the stage show at 7pm will take place, a spokesman said, adding: 'It is an ongoing situation. We will try and give as much notice as possible.'

**SNIP**

Hydraulic, pop-up urinals were brought into use by Westminster City Council about 20 years ago in an attempt to discourage street urination.

Don't Brits call it the Loo or Lu? I never seen a pop up pee house before. They could use a few in San Francisco. They would need a poop pop up as well. San Fran is full of crap. Just ask Depape.

Didn't the Get Smart opening have something like that? I'd sure hate to stop for a whiz and end up in the secret lair of a government organization. You know, like the FBI...

When I was in Galway Ireland back in the 80’s they had these little shacks with drains in the middle of them that emptied into the sewer below.

A potty equipped with a hydraulic ram to shove it up out of the sidewalk. Brilliant! What could go wrong?

>> At least he died doing what he loved.

I knew this thread would be pure comedy gold, and I’m not disappointed. :-)

Draco is too refined for urinal pranks, and his dad would kill him. Sounds more like Crabbe or Goyle to me.

Somewhat similar.
Max gets into a phone booth at the end of a long hall of doors, closes the door, and the bottom drops out.
Heckuvan elevator.

Incidentally, that little red sports car he pulls up in was Don Adams’ personal car. The Sunbeam Tiger Mk. I was V8 powered, and earned the nickname “Poor man’s Cobra.”
