A McDonald's in Indiana accidentally handed drive-thru customer Josiah Vargas all its deposit money instead of his sausage muffin.
Vargas uploaded a video to TikTok where he was confused, then agonized over returning the money.

"Why would you guys do this to me? You know how bad I want this money?" Vargas asks.
However, Vargas did the right thing and carried the money back into the store.
"I really want to give you a hug," an employee is heard saying, and then she does.
He said McDonald's gave him a $200 reward for returning the money and free McDonald's for a month.
"Do good, people," Vargas said.
However, the story doesn't end there.
Since returning the money, his video has gone viral. Most of the comments praised Vargas for doing the right thing, but in a sign of the times, there were a lot of anti-capitalist comments that were saying he would have been right to keep the money.

The comment I resonated most with was this one.
This was my first thought too.
What kind of business deposits their money sorted into plastic baggies?
In my experience, most banks provide deposit bags--often with locks on them.
At any rate, Vargas may still end up getting the thousands of dollars he handed back to McDonald's as his little brother set up a GoFundMe for him, and it is currently sitting at $1,500 in donations from people that think it's good to reward someone for doing the right thing.
That, at least, gives me some hope for the future.
and it’s more nutritious....
He could have used that money to go buy some eggs. But, instead, he did the right thing. Good for him.
Where did his sausage muffin go?
It sounds like the guy was dumb enough to tell others.
You have a choice - take it and leave, or turn it in.
I’d turn it in, probably.
The way of all flesh................
I have not seen a locked bag in at least a couple of decades.
Heartwarming, but isn’t it a little sad that this isn’t the norm anymore?
People advocating being a thief.
When did doing the right thing become an exception?
Not very many eggs, these days. sigh.
Same thing happened last September at an unspecified restaurant in Georgia. It was over $500.
Reason # 244 for McDonalds to force ‘cashless’ on everyone.
Here a swipe, there a swipe, everywhere a swipe swipe
“there were a lot of anti-capitalist comments that were saying he would have been right to keep the money.”
Commies who actually believe their idealogy should suggest he give the money to the state not keep it.
The jokes will write themselves on this one.
Something just ain’t right here, Jim. I smell a rat.
Who hands out business money thru a drive-thru window?
Maybe she ‘mistakenly gave it to the ‘wrong’ person.
Anyway, God Bless him.
Yes, pretty sad when we have to do stories about people being honest.
With an egg-a-muffin here and an egg-a-muffin there
Grease I, Grease I, Ohhh...
