If your Hyundai or Kia uses a physical ignition key, it can be stolen with relative ease. As we've reported, a USB cable is all that's necessary to get away with a new car. It's a costly problem for police in cities such as Columbus, Ohio, and Denver. Insurers in these regions and others have now had enough. Insurance giants State Farm and Progressive are now refusing to insure many vehicles sold by the two Korean auto brands in those cities and others now.
In a statement to The Drive, Progressive confirmed that it was no longer issuing new insurance policies to "some" Hyundai and Kia vehicles in certain cities. "Due to the theft risk that some Hyundai and Kia vehicles present, in many cases it makes these vehicles difficult to insure, so in certain areas of the country we have adjusted our acceptance criteria for new business (there is no change for existing customers) on some of these models," the spokesperson said. "We’ll continue to monitor how this issue plays out and are hopeful to be able to revisit our decision as the theft risk diminishes and community awareness improves."

You don’t see them much anymore because once they became widespread, the thieves discovered that they could quickly cut the steering wheel and pull the Club off. The Club will stop a joyriding teen, but not a pro.
A guy in the dorm was smarter than that. His car was stolen and recovered. He just used a screwdriver to start it when he needed to go somewhere.
“jail sentences”
Many leftists jurisdictions have cut back on jail because of:
1. its cost
2. its associated possibility of reducing the leftist voter base
3. it can result in a criminal losing honest employment
What could be done for minor crimes is saying requiring petty criminals to serve say 100 hours within a courthouse room or in an outside pen of the courthouse say within 100 days, or face say 30 days of actual jail time.
There would be no need to pay for their medical care or food (and they would still be able retain an honest job since they could pick the times that they serve their sentence).
To encourage them to serve such time, the time they serve within say 10 days of their arrest might be double credited and that within 11 to 30 days given a 50% bonus, decreasing by 1% a day thereafter.
The mere threat of actual incarceration can be quite effective. The IRS collects about a trillion dollars annually upon threats of imprisonment.
The Club was easily defeated by hacksawing through the steering wheel, which usually only has a small ring of metal in the middle of the padded rim.
But I don't know if the "Kia Boyz" would work that hard for a joy ride.
Older GM cars could be stolen if you had about any old set of GM keys.
The theft is so bad here in the Cleveland, Oh market that police stations are giving them away for FREE!
Other night the local apartment complex had 3 of these vehicles stolen!

I guess Emily Campagno on FOX has a ‘72 she talks about.
“ Whatever happened to THE CLUB.”
We stopped applying the club to the heads of car thieves.

Sweet ride. Every thing was better in the 70’s
“Treat motor vehicle thieves as if they stole a horse.”
Chop off their hands Saudi style—problem solved.
I had 69 Plymouth Roadrunner, a friend had a 68. Another guy we knew had a 69 Satellite. The key from the Satellite would open both Roadrunners. Of course the Roadrunners were based on the Satellite, so in that era it wasn’t surprising.
I knew a guy who had the same “feature” on his Corvette
Nothing defeats the PROS from stealing your car if the want it.
I had a buddy who bought the first H2 Hummer in New England.
Six months later he drove it up to Montreal for a wedding.
Parked it in the secured lot at the Marriott.
When he came back from dinner the Hummer was gone.
He had to rent a car to drive back to NH.
Six months later he got a call one morning at our office from Interpol. He thought someone was screwing with him. No they were very serious.
They had located his Hummer based on the VIN# on the engine block in Cape Town, South Africa. Could he please come down to the FBI building in Boston to give a deposition.
I have a 2012!Kia
Still have insurance
[Every thing was better in the 70’s]
