Take That, California! Wyoming Legislators Draft Resolution Banning Electric Vehicles By 2035
Cowboy State Daily ^ | January 13, 2023 | Kevin Killough

The Wyoming Legislature is considering a resolution to phase out sales of new electric vehicles in the Cowboy State by 2035.

The resolution’s sponsors say Senate Joint Resolution 4 is a response to laws other states are implementing to eliminate gas-powered vehicles.

The resolution’s sponsor, Sen. Jim Anderson, R-Casper, told Cowboy State Daily the intention of the proposal, titled “Phasing Out New Electric Vehicle Sales By 2035,” is to push back against bans on new sales of cars with internal combustion engines in states like California and New York.

“The Legislature would be saying, ‘If you don’t like our petroleum cars, well, we don’t like your electric cars,’” Anderson said Impractical Vehicles

SJ 4 states that oil and gas production has been one of the Cowboy State’s “proud and valued industries” that has created “countless jobs” and revenues for Wyoming throughout its history.

The resolution also praises gas-powered vehicles for enabling the state’s industries and businesses to transport goods and resources throughout the nation.

It also notes a lack of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, which would impede widespread use of electric vehicles, saying their use is “impractical.”

We don’t want any stinkin’ battery fires in our state. Too cold to be a functional vehicle here.

They tried electric vehicles 100 years ago. It didn’t work then and it doesn’t work now...and in the old days...they didn’t burst into flames.

I like it. I mean I like the spirit of it.

Seriously, I have zero problem with EV's. Everyone should have the right to buy or not buy what they want to drive. Electric Vehicles may work great for you. Maybe if you are in Southern California, and long distances and freezing temperatures aren't a concern, drive what you want. That same vehicle might not work as well in Montana in February. I just believe in the freedom to choose. And the monolithic elitist mandates based on sketchy climate theories are not sufficient to negate freedom.

Ditto-- govt's should not be banning electric or petroleum vehicles. Let the market and consumer citizens decidedly choose.

EVs are MUCH MORE DANGEROUS in emergency situations when people need to evacuate an area quickly, particularly in extreme cold conditions. So it makes sense to at least require all people who can drive and do own a vehicle to have at least one functional gasoline car, otherwise the risk of overloading Emergency Services is simply too high.

After that, and if they do need to Virtue Signal (particularly in Jackson Hole), then yes, they should be allowed to own an EV, but only after demonstrating that they have a functional gasoline car as their Primary Vehicle.

If I had to think of a state where a electric car would be useless Wyoming would be on the list. Bitterly cold winters and long travels to get to where you’re going means an electric car would be about worthless

Wife and I could get by with EVs for a lot of our driving, if we could afford them. Having two EVs and then a gas powered vehicle for long distance trips is too much for the budget.

EV’s might be useful in cities where the average drive is less than 10 mi.

Long drives and heavy loads are for vehicles that run on liquid fuel.

If any state should do this, Florida should, because of the potential risk of loss of life caused by thousands of stranded electric vehicles and their occupants and the ensuing gridlock during a mass evacuation along 2 chokepoint interstates (75&95) because of an approaching hurricane. Florida should pass a state law assigning all liability for costs and loss of life to the manufacturers of motor vehicles which cause extensive backlogs because of inadequate range and/or extended recharge times.

That would definitely leave a mark.

Kalifornia demanded some power be generated by windmills so they put them up in Wyoming. Windmill places need to be replaced regularly so they bury them in a former coal mine in Wyoming.
