NASA discovers Earth-sized, habitable planet in other solar system

NASA has discovered an Earth-sized planet that is considered "habitable."

On Tuesday, at the 241st meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Seattle, Washington, it presented the finding.

According to postdoctoral fellow at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California Emily Gilbert, “This is one of only a few systems with multiple, small, habitable-zone planets that we know of.”

“That makes the TOI 700 system an exciting prospect for additional follow up. Planet e is about 10% smaller than planet d, so the system also shows how additional TESS observations help us find smaller and smaller worlds,” she explained.

The newly discovered planet is labeled TOI 700 e. TOI 700 b, c, and d have previously been spotted by NASA. D, like its newly discovered counterpart, is considered to orbit a "habitable zone."

Known as TOI 700, the system stems from a small, cool, red dwarf star sequence. Red dwarfs are small compared to the Sun. In fact, they're considered the smallest main sequence of stars, per NASA.

NASA defines a habitable zone as being in "the range of distances from a star where liquid surface water could be present at some point in a planet’s history."

Scientists expect more details to be revealed about this system in the future.

But if we sent all the commies there they would be out of here where we have to deal with them

I’m always pleasantly surprised by the depth of knowledge one must have to ask questions like this.

Once again, Freepers are among the smartest people on THIS planet.

Like our moon is tidally locked to the Earth so that we see only one side.
__
Strike 1: spectral class M red dwarfs are unstable and frequently produce extreme flares and coronal mass ejections.
Strike 2: a planet in tidal lock will demonstrate extreme changes in climate which complicate habitability.
Strike 3: a red dwarf emits most of its energy in the infrared while a yellow dwarf like our Sun peaks in the visible range. Liquid water is most transparent to light in the visible range of the electromagnetic spectrum, an inherent property of water. Is it just a coincidence that our Sun’s surface temperature maximizes the penetration of light into the oceans?

Not until the year 10191. I think we are safe as long as the climate nazis don’t plunge us into another ice age, which is the natural state of planet Earth.

Hmmm...
Nothing good ever happens around a Red Dwarf...
Funny, yes... Habitable, no...

the system stems from a small, cool, red dwarf star sequence.

Meaning another sterile wasteland.

They better get the temperature history over time.

Got any Hockey Sticks?

Any influence from the white men on earth radiating out to them?

Just what is THEIR ideal temp on that planet?

The way they find these planets is to observe the star and look for periodic dimming, meaning that they have an orbit in the range of days or weeks. Even if the planet is in the liquid water zone, it is probably not suitable fore human habit because of the extremely short seasons or crazy rotation or axis tilt.

around 100 light-years away in the southern constellation Dorado. That’s all. But this makes news.

All BS. No way they can know of any of the conditions on the planet.

They only know of its existence because periodically the light from the star is blocked. They have no way of seeing the planet itself. Not even the new Webb telescope can see the planet.

It’s all a SWAG. At best. Vain imaginations.
