Where are the Intellectually Curious Doctors?

Good medicine is asking questions and forming a differential diagnosis, ruling out possibilities based on science, not on politics.

Medicine, like most sciences, entails thinking and hypothesis creation to explain the myriad complexities of the healthy and diseased human body.

Hypotheses are tested and refined, with new information or insights nudging or abruptly shifting current knowledge in a new direction.

For examples, bloodletting with leeches is no longer standard medical practice for most ailments as it was up until the late 19th century. More recently, Vioxx was considered a safer painkiller, until it was found to cause heart attacks and strokes, similar to another “safe and effective” product introduced about two years ago. Oxycontin was marketed as a nonaddictive pain killer until it devasted hundreds of thousands of lives and families and was shown to be otherwise.

Physicians, upon medical school graduation, recite the Hippocratic Oath. Quoting from the revised version (simply because the language is easier to understand), physicians swear, “I will not be ashamed to say, ‘I know not’” and “Above all, I must not play at God.”

Beginning in the 1970s, but accelerating after 1986, 1993, and especially after 2009, America decided that the habits of independence, self-reliance and critical thinking by doctors was screwing everything up, and that a system controlled by MBAs, MHAs, politicians, and lawyers would be more fair, more equitable, and cheaper.

I started medical school in 1972, was in private practice in 1986, and I have been effectively an employee since 1987.

The training of young doctors, now >50% women in their prime reproductive years, has changed to fit the model. Do your hours, take your time “off”, let the “team” worry about the loose ends.

America got what she wanted. Now, we have to deal with the consequences.

My doctor, former doctor, didn’t know what Ivermectin was.

Joseph Mengele is the new role model for doctors.

Obey authority.

Use your patients as guinea pigs.

Call them “kooky conspiracy theorists” if they object to your “treatment”.

If doctors save lives how can we possibly meet the population reduction goals and save the planet?

"If nonphysicians are curious, why isn’t the medical establishment?"

🤔

Of course, to discover what [dogma that can't be criticized that] rules over more people than the political, medical, scientific, academic, and social-conformity establishments, just question the settled doctrines of religious Establishments (no one in particular).

The aforementioned little "e"s are all pikers by comparison.

It's like what someone posted yesterday on the Ron Jeremy thread that was yanked (so I don't recall who it was, and I also have to summarize):

As for his productivity (number of films?) is his profession, Ron Jeremy's work was 8x that of whoever was in second place.

Doctors’ stock in trade was a combination of intelligence, integrity, and independence of thought. Two legs of that three-legged stool got brutally ripped out during COVID. If the medical profession as a whole (and allopathic physicians in particular) doesn’t have a massive come-to-Jesus moment, and very soon, the public will move on. Where to? Who knows.

Had the same happen. Docs verY reluctant to discuss anything but the cdc protocol. They risked many years of,hard work if hey broke protocol. Zele ski and others like him braved the threats thankfully, but other than that many people may have died because docs didn’t are a stand agaisnt the bullying of the establishment

Definitely doctors were afraid to go against CDC guidelines. Also, do not underestimate the leash effect of the electronic medical record. All that electronic record is reviewed. If they were to prescribe hydroxychloroquin or ivermectin, that would be immediately seen and tagged.

“doctors were afraid to go against CDC guideline” Yep. In any red state those same guidelines became state dept of health guidelines. Leading to investigations if they were not followed.

When seeking a new physician I asked on doctor if she would consider ivermectin or other therapeutics. Before I even finished the question she gave a very curt NO.

I asked why and she ignorantly told me she hadn’t researched it yet

I said with some sarcasm “it’s been 2 1/2 years lady. Don’t you have any curiosity?”

Needless to say, she didn’t get the job.

Graduates from major medical schools were admitted to med schools without a SCIENCE degree of any kind-— english majors, english lit... etc (they had to have a certain number of undergrad courses but not a MAJOR in them— those pure science courses that, learned requires the kind of thinking) and logic the author is bemoaning does not exist,

So they get numerous bozos the likes of, for example the Press Secretary moron for Joe Bama, Karine Jean-Pierre.. truly an idiot!

Needless to say— at major corporatized medical schools/hospitals... the physicians there are EMPLOYEES, even the academics.... afraid to violate corporate WRIT taken from the CDC (the CDC has no say in the operation of a hospital, which is overseen by the Joint Committee based in Chicago(the rating outfit for ... hospitals).

There ARE a few brave medical professors operating sub-rosa, fake names the works— to get their much more expert knowledge based medical opinions out to the public. These are and were... heros. Unsung— so they could keep the job.

Corporate-ized hospitals systems are enslaved to the govt. medical industrial complex... run formerly by the likes of Fauci, a medical fraudster and greedy PATENT holder for things looked into with govt grants HE distributed. In other words, corrupt as all untreated fecal matter in gucci shoes.

“....Graduates from major medical schools were admitted to med schools without a SCIENCE degree of any kind ...”

To have any chance at all of being admitted they would to have all the biological & chemical science courses probably even math like calculus. Everyone I know had undergraduate degrees in biology, chemistry and chemical engineering often dual degrees in those fields.

Today everyone has those type of degrees, top-of-the-line grades, great MCAT scores. To get in you have to have more - show you really want to be a MD. Meaning some sort of extracurricular activity oriented toward medicine.

I am sure the one out of 10,000 exception occurs.

The biggest reason MDs aren’t curious is because risk taking (or even questioning the “routine”!) in one’s practice even for the benefit of the patient is a path to be sued and lose your license. You can thank the predatory lawyers for that!

True that on the law dogs— fear rules, that the the excessive premiums for insurance. The reason why many OB-GYNs quit or “went naked” ie no insurance and stating so in their offices.

You are correct on what used to be required— pure sciences, not psychology degrees, and high MCAT and provable logic questions in rafts of interviews. In the last 15 years or so this has dramatically changed, as you say— one must have “something more” (from wide experience, money doesn’t talk it swears— and obamaumao-like got a lot of real screwups in ).

Point being made was that there are many brilliant outside the box thinkers who were brave enough to get their learned diagnostic skills out through the purposeful FOG of media, and the medical-industrial complex which suppressed dialogue professionally and publicly.

Run of the mill— doc in the box millenials, are not curious- beyond their phones. A tragedy inheritors of truly brilliant medical teachers now gone on. Case in point is Dr. Malone (who has been paid tons in royalties for the mRNA related patents, yet has had the ethics and temerity to point out how wrong and improper the use of mRNA was. This was not going to stop the likes of Bill Gates, and their chi-com intermediaries which Fauci funded. He, at a minimum should be up on charges- corruption is only part of what he did).
