A customer at Ranchito Taqueria shot and killed a man who robbed the restaurant in southwest Houston late Thursday night, according to the Houston Police Department.
It happened just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday at the restaurant on S. Gessner near Bellaire Boulevard.
Houston police said the armed man in a mask came inside the restaurant, demanding money and wallets from customers. However, as he was leaving, one of those customers shot the suspect.
The incident was caught on surveillance video.
Houston police also released surveillance photos of the customer who shot the robber in the video. Investigators said he is wanted for questioning for his role in the shooting. He has not been identified and is not charged at this time.
A photo of his 1970s or 80s model pickup truck with no bed was also released
The shooter collected the stolen money from the robber and returned it to the other patrons, police said. Then the rest of the people in the restaurant left the scene before the police arrived.
No one else in the restaurant was injured. Investigators said the suspect ended up not having a real gun.
“The robbery suspect he came into the store and was wearing masks and gloves,” HPD Lt. Wilkens said. “He had a plastic pistol possibly an aero soft or possibly a little BB pistol.”
The surveillance video shows the shooting going down. It shows customers, witnesses, and the shooter leaving the scene right after the shooting.

The problem here is the robber was black and the shooter white... some see this as problematical... if they find this guy they will prosecute.
Here is the problem. According to the video I saw, the robber had his back to the shooter so the robber “apparently” wasn’t causing an immediate threat of harm.
The shooter shot the robber 3 times in the back.
That ain’t good..
Correctomundo!
“He had a plastic pistol possibly an aero soft or possibly a little BB pistol.”
Well we all know he isn’t black or the city would be burning with the cries of “UNARMED BLACK MAN KILLED BY WHITE GUY!”
Great video too. The perp had the courtesy to die on the run saving the owner from mopping up a mess of blood. And throwing his drink on him. Great stuff.
I sure as hell wouldn’t talk to the cops about this. Troy Finner, police chief, has a barely hidden chip on his shoulder.
My understanding of Texas law is that you can shoot a person committing a crime.
This is unlike many other states where a person can rob a store and the proprietor can only watch it happen.
Don’t Mess With Texas.
I read somewhere else that he threw his coffee cup on the guy as leaving. Guessing not his first time, he’d probably be smart to stay lost. Imagine the HPD won’t be real motivated to find him before moving on.
What kind of idiot tries to armed rob a Taqueria?
Good way to get your lamp blowed out.
SW Houston is a totally different place than it was 40 years ago…
I love a happy ending.
“The orange tip, mandated by federal law, so I’ve heard, comes right off.”
For extra fun, put that orange tip on your real Beretta. Might buy you that extra third of a second delay in a bad guy’s mind when he thinks “say, he don’t think he can hurt me with that toy does he?”.
It’s a dirty world.
My advice? Consult an Attorney asap.
Looked to me like the perp was pointing his weapon and walking straight towards the guy seated just to the left of the door with his hands up.
In Texas you have the right to defend others as well as yourself. I say clean shoot.

Just right.
It looks like a nine, so probably 6 left in the mag, and one in the pipe.
Nice fire discipline.

No such concept exists in the law. Just in western movies.
Just right.

Good guy might be in a little bit of trouble. Apeared he delivered the coup de grâce after the robber was down.

He's not going to be hard to find. Here's his ride.
Like Goldilocks said about the baby bear's bed - just right.
