Very soon we are going to see some wondrous new things roll out based on his technology.

I taught physics for many years. Well, one day I’m in my lab after classes have let out. And in comes this rather stern and self-confident woman. She identified herself as Nikola Tesla’s great-grand-niece (I think that’s the term she used).

She then demanded - not asked - to know if we taught about her uncle.

“Certainly,” I replied. “Tesla was a giant in physics, and his work was very important.” This seemed to satisfy the woman, and she just left. There was no further conversation.

Weird, uh? This happened around the year 2000. I wish I had gotten her name.

He ripped up his agreement with Westinghouse that would have paid a ridiculous amount of money.

No, he made a deal with JP Morgan to finance AC electricity thru George Westinghouse. But Morgan said he didn't want to pay for the patent licenses based on Tesla's work. So Tesla tore up his patents on AC propagation and use. And Thomas Edison, who was also being financed by Morgan, sought other enterprises and killed his DC propagation of electricity.

"Can anyone recommend a book about his life that is fairly straight forward?"

Can't recommend a book, however there was a movie about Tesla's alternating current vs Edisons direct current. It shows how Edison ripped off Tesla's alternating current to become the current the world works on.

Also in the movie, Edison proved how deadly AC was by electrifying and killing a cow. The problem with Edison's DC, it needed transformers every few miles to re-generate the electricity. I saw a schematic in the movie and it was more like every few blocks for a transformer. Highly inefficient.

Unfortunately, Tesla was not much of a businessman and practically gave away one of the worlds greatest inventions of all time.

A genius indeed Marconi used 13 or so of his patents to make the radio later Marconi’s patent was pulled for that reason.

To bad he wasn’t better at business
